Port Question

Recommended Posts

I haven't had a fill yet - probably won't get one for several more weeks.

But, I have this worry that my port has moved. I feel it about 4inches above my port incision. The NP also felt it in that location on my last followup.

I was sitting and she said that it feels that way in the sitting position.

But, mine is like that standing. I wish I would have checked it out standing at that time. I will not be seen for 2 1/2 weeks. It's been bothering me.

My question is: Is your port right around where your incision is?

I think you will be fine . . . because I was AMAZED to find that the needle holes from my fill are 2 inches BELOW my port insision . . . I don't know what I've been feeling . . .but obviously not the right thing lol. I think you're fine.

My main lump is about 2 inches below my big incision. When I had my first fill I was suprised that the lump is not actually my port. It is above it. My port is actually lower than the ball that feels like it is the port. I guess that isn't a great explanation but my fill PA didn't have a problem locating it. She knew exactly what she was feeling for. It's just our inexperienced hands that don't have a clue.

I wouldn't worry. You will be alright.

Thanks everybody for your replies and your reassurances.

Maybe what I am feeling isn't even my port - just like some of you said.

But, I really thought that it would be really close to the port incision. I will quit dwelling on it and wait for my first time under fluoro.

Hope everyone's day will go well. Keep your eye on the prize.

C.N.

My port is right in the middle of two incisions. I can feel it pretty easily, and so could my doctor. He said he could easily fill me without flouro but that he wouldn't do that to me at this time. I was glad about that! LOL

I thought my port was above my incision too, it even pokes out a big, but come to find out my port is under my incision. Doc said he'd only seen the hard lump above 2 times after over 3000 surgeries....the other one was the same day he saw mine, so he didnt have anything to really tell me, other then come back if it's not gone in 30 days, but he wasnt worried. It doesnt seem to be going away, so i'll go back. It doesnt hurt or anything, just a hard lump. Odd!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
