Recommended Posts

I also have a 10cc band and had my first fill on Monday. The doc put in 3cc and I feel nothing. It doesn't help I am PMSing and want to eat everthing in sight:(

I have 4cc's in my 10cc band. Got 3 on Wednesday, my first fill. I do and don't feel restriction. Its weird. I start on solid food Sunday, so I will have to really see then. I do have another doc visit in two weeks.

I am so glad I'm not the only one.

I was banded 2 weeks ago and I too don't have much restriction. I am hungry nearly all the time, but I'm trying to use my willpower and not give in! Drinking lots of Water.< /span>

I lost 10lbs on the pre-op diet but since being banded I lost 6lbs in the first week and nothing in my 2nd! (Trying to stay focused). Just starting with the mushy food period, hoping that the weight will again start to come off.

Please keep me posted. Good luck!;)

I am as frustrated as you are! I have just come from my third fill yesterday. I have a 9cc band and they filled me up to 6.23. I have had my first fill 2weeks ago, the second 6 days later and now this one last night. My Surgery date was on 11/22/07 and nothing lost..........They pull out what they put in so I know there is no leak but why can I eat anything???? I almost feel like my eating has gotten worse since the surgery. I keep "testing" and find no limit. Here's the cherry on top...... I've gained 5lbs since my surgery date. Any advice- I'm quickly getting depressed.

The scale will more...what happened to me was that I lost 26lbs on the presurgery diet. They weighted me the morning before surgery and then again before I left the hospital. I had GAINED almost 10lbs....I was so mad, so I spent the next 2 weeks geting off what I gained in the hospital. I am sure from all the fluids they pump in. I am now almost 5 months out and I have lost 65lbs with no fills as of yet. I have done very well with no fill but I am starting to feel like maybe the time is coming for a small fill. Hope this helps....don't feel frustrated your body has to adjust to it's new way of life and being fed.

It's too hard to not get frustrated. I haven't even seen a post yet of anyone getting bigger after surgery. I just don't understand

I am so happy to have found this thread. Gretchen's comments were so helpful!

I have had 1fill and feel no restiction. I have been eating well and journaling everything I eat, but I am definitely still a volume eater of the right foods for now. I can eat a large volume at one time and that bothered me, until I read this thread.

All said and done I have lost 12 lbs since my surgery on 12/13/07. I was upset and thought it should be more, but I am going to be patient now until I am at the right restriction level.

Also, I should be happy I am not gaining, because that has been the trend for the last 2 years.....

Tiffany is happy with the 12lbs and waiting for that right restriction level!

I have to add one thing to this...

I have learned so much about myself when I do not have good restriction. I have learned that what goes in my mouth really is ALL ME! I do not have fabulous restriction right now, and I made a deal with myself. I will not allow myself to get a fill until I drop 15 more pounds. I CAN DO IT! Why can't I? I've already lost 55 pounds.... what's 15 more? I am on a roll. I ate 700 calories today. I did great. I am on the right track. The band is a tool, and only a tool. It has taught me so much about how much control I have. I actually am in charge of my body, not the other way around. I am glad I have the band, and wouldn't change a thing. In fact, it will be great to have a fill when I drop 15 more pounds. It will be a reward and a boost! A boost for more weight loss and relief that I have help!!!!!

Just thought I'd spill my gutts, thanks.

I want to say, again, (I've said it many times on this site) that wanting and needing restriction does not make you weak, or bad, or an undisciplined person. The reason I spent thousands of dollars and had major surgery is because I do not have what it takes to restrict myself from putting food in my mouth. Yes, the band is just a tool and yes, I have to do my part too. But what is the point of trying to do it without restriction? If restriction allows me to go five hours without obsessing about food and feel satisfied between meals, I want it. Putting off fills, or denying myself a fill til I lose a certain amount of weight is pointless. It is not putting the band to the use it was intended for.If you can get by with eating 700 calories a day without the proper restriction, why did you have surgery? I can't do it and I am tired of people on this site making me feel like a loser for being that way. Fills are not 'wrong' and those of us who need them are not bad banders. Hip hip hooray if you are losing scads of weight without restriction but I think you are missing the point of the band. :tongue2:

Well I have discovered if I don't have anything to eat before 11:00am, I am hungry all day. I am eating less than I used to eat, but eating more than I should. LIke last night, 10oz chili with cheese, and 2 cups green Beans, steamed. I made the chili from scratch.

So this morning, I had greek yogurt, with 14g Protein, took 30 minutes to eat 8oz cup. So we shall see how the day progresses.

I am scheduled for a doctors appt next Friday, so maybe I need a little more in my band. I currently have 4cc's in a 10cc band.

I was banded on 1/18/2008 and can eat most everything I was eating prior to surgery. I had grown concerned but now I am not! Gretchen you have given some great information and now I understand what is going on with me!!!! I go for a follow up visit on 2/14 and I sure do hope because I have healed so well, they will go ahead and schedule a fill.

Thanks to you all for this great post.

As far as I know, it's standard protocol of the UCSD Center for the Treatment of Obesity. I think it was scheduled as part of a series of tests. However, it is possible that I had it because during the barium test, they found a hiatal hernia. (I'd never even taken a TUMS.)

I am seeing that the program I am in is very thorough and conservative.

It is a teaching medical school. The director was one of the first surgeons to do the laparoscopic band procedures. He teaches surgeons all over the world.

And the testing apparently was thorough.

I had a barium test again before I left the hospital after surgery as well.

My sutures look "excellent," and I was told I probably will not scar. No staples or stitches. Some kind of super surgical glue that is just disappearing as I heal.

I think a robot was involved, because when I signed the legal docs, I recall that described. I'm part of several clinical trial groups.

Speaking of clinical trial groups, as an intresting digression, I discovered that an old family friend lost over 200 pounds as part of the original lapband trials. He had only a couple of fills and it changed his life. Amazing, huh. He cuts his food into tiny pieces, eats anything and everything, walks 5 miles daily, has a trainer.

Didnt take much to totally transform his life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
