How long were you off work ??

Recommended Posts

Just curious to know how long did you take off from work ... Did the surgeon tell you how long to stay off or did you pick the days that you wanted off? See the surgeon again first thing in the morning to start pre-op diet and such. And I dont know how to tell him that I want atleast 2 weeks ... hate my F*CKING job LOL! And it's paid leave so why not. Then I get 6 teeth pulled on the 18th so that's like 4-5 more days. I think I will be out for a good month. What do you think??

Apple,

My doc said we can start with a week then you tell me how ur feeling. He said he had one patient that stayed out a month, it all depends on the patient.

To be honest i'm hoping for 3 weeks.

I had surgery on Tuesday before Thanksgiving and went back to work on Monday.

Had mine on a Friday. Worked from home Tuesday afternoon (was bored) and then went 1/2 day on Wednesday. Getting in/out of my car was the most difficult part (it's a lower coupe). Really didn't do a lot of moving around until around day 10 or so and got tired pretty quickly.

Page down to the bottom of this page, you will find several thread links where this question has been answered in abundance.

I'm not picking on you, but I wanted you to have responses from a large cross-section of folks. By viewing the posts below, you'll be able to read about the experience from folks that sit at a desk, folks that walk all day, folks that do physical labor, etc...

The Poll thread is a good one, you get a nice idea of what the average is.

Here's a few more links, and a couple more polls. Hope this helps you!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
