Shall I be first in February?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

On reading everyone's dates on another thread, it looks like I have the honour of being the first bandster in February!! (op on 2nd Feb)

I'll introduce myself, I'm Sarah, 34 (35 on Feb 11th), married with 2 children. I live in Edinburgh, Scotland and I've been overweight all my life. I first looked into surgery 8 years ago but was told I wasn't too overweight! If only I had a crystal ball back then - I've put on another 70lbs since then!

Anyway, I started my pre-op diet last Saturday, 2 weeks before the big day. Its actually not as bad as I thought it would be. I've lost around 18lbs in the last 3 1/2 weeks anyway so I'm doing ok. (must update the ticker!)

I'll keep you posted as to how things go. Would love to hear the differences between the UK and USA bandsters. Here's one to start off, my surgeon told me I'm off work 8 weeks after - I have desk job!

Sarah

Hi Sadie....

I'm Feb 5th...less than two weeks!! Wow...you're doing awesome on your pre-op diet!! I just started mine yesterday. I have to do 3 shakes a day and a small low carb meal, then I do Clear liquids only the two days prior to my surgery.

I'm 37 and happily married. I live in San Diego in work in public relations. I too, have been overweight all my life. Oh my gosh.....8 weeks off, I don't think I've heard that one so far!! My doc said I will be outpatient and can go back to work within a week. Well, I'm happy to see you on these boards and glad that we have such a great group of support.

Amy

Can't wait to hear how your surgery goes! Kick us off to a good start!

8 weeks off, huh - I only have 1 week off, then back to work. I'm on my feet all day - no desk job for me.

Definitely an interesting comparison.

Anna

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
