*** Question for Bandsters ***

Recommended Posts

I was banded on January 10, 2008 and things are going very well. I have started mushies but I am more just liquid. My mushies have been mashed potatoes and oatmeal.

My question should I be eating more mushies? I have only been hungry one time... during the playoff game... you know football snacks!

I feel good about my weight loss so far just don't want to do anything that will mess me up later.

Thanks everyone.

I never regained true or hunger or my appetite post-op. I'm almost 2 years out and can count on one hand the number of times I've been truly hungry. Don't worry about what you're eating (withins urgeon's guidelines, of course) so much as healing right now. There's no reason you have to have different types of mushies. Most people just find they like the variety.

If you are not hungry for them, don't eat them.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking the post-op diet SLOWER than prescribed. The problems come when one takes it faster than what the doc or nut told you to.

Congrats on the loss, congrats on not feeling hungry and if you don't want to eat a mushy, don't. Just make sure you are getting in enough Fluid and Protein (protein drinks, etc.).

The biggest thing my surgeon keeps drilling into my head is:

get enough Protein

as long as you are doing that I would say you are fine.

Good luck!

It is really important to move to mushies then solids. Its not a good idea to eat all liquids. Maybe one Protein Shake a day but not all day long. It deafeats the purpose of the band to consume too many liquids. You may see a slight weight gain when you move your diet to mushies then solids. That will come off when you start getting fills. Good luck.

See what your doctor allows. I am able to have scrambled eggs, reg broth based Soups run through the blender, applesauce, flaky fish, etc. I am in week 2 of mushies with one additional week to go.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
