different stories for different people. I was on the elliptical 4 days post-op, lifting limited to 20 pounds or less, and was cleared for "unlimited" (heavy lifting) exercise at 4 weeks. My doc doesn't believe the body should be pampered after this surgery, but he does say "follow your body; if it hurts adjust your routine."

Yep, every doctor is different. Was told nothing heavier than a gallon of milk for four weeks. I had a hernia repaired as well, so maybe thats my reason. Also, nothing except the walking in the street, not even a treadmill.

The trainer that was at my last support group told me not to sign up for his class until a full 2 months after surgery, as his weight training workouts are exhausting.

My doc said to do anything I felt comfortable doing (with the exception of abdominal exercises). I have been doing a little walking, but my port side is still sore, and I can't walk too much without my stomach muscles getting stiff. I guess we use our torso for so many activities, it is hard to get to full speed until we are fully heeled. I was going to try a little doubles tennis tomorrow. I'll take some Alleve and see how it goes.

My doctor is very strict with his diet but not so much with exercising. When I asked him how long before I could bowl again he told me "nothing we have done in there will be bothered" and encouraged me to be as active as I was comfortable with. So I've been up and walking around and trying to be as active as I can be. Nine days post op I was fishing and Ten days out I bowled 5 games. For obvious reasons I will stay away from anything contact or that uses abs but I've had my strength since day 4 post op!

Well I am almost 3 weeks post op and feel absolutely fine so I could start doing exercise at any point... except my problem is UGH I just don't want to. I HATED IT SO MUCH and well I haven't lost enough weight yet to have that attitude change. *sigh*.

I know what you mean. I just said that to my doctor last week when he asked me about my exercise...I said I have not lost enough weight to have an attitude adjustment...the one that is going to make me exercise. I'm lucky if I get my treadmill a couple times a week. I really do wish I could exercise more....but by attitude sucks...I still hate myself for being sooo fat, lazy and unmotivated. I'm hoping that after my first fill and the weight starts coming off my attitude may change.

I can't believe I was skinny and an swimmer, track, gymnastics and in college I was on the crew team...8-man rowing scull....loved it and loved to exercise....what happened...how did I get like this????

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
