Hello fellow lapbanders, My name is Lisa. I was banded origianlly in 2004. At that time my weight was 250# at my height of 5 feet 5 inches. I went through the lap band procedure in Port Huron, Michigan. My initial exeprience was great. I felt the surgery was a breeze. The weight loss was slow, but I was told that up front. I did research on the lap band compared to the gastric bypass and felt that the band was the best option for me. I was having a great deal of difficulty working the long 12 hour shifts as a RN in the emergency department. I needed to do something. Well over the next two years I lost a total of 120#!!!! I was so stoked! I went from a size 22 to a size 6! Thank you, Dr. Behsania! But then one night I woke up with acid washing back up into my throat and coughing. I could not get anything to go down, so I contacted my doctor. The UGI confirmed that I had a prolapse of my stomach, but how? I had no other symptoms before that at all. So, July 27, 2007, I again went through the lap band procedure. The second time around seemed a little more painful than the first. I was afraid that they would not be able to re do the band or something. I was fearful because I know that without the band I would gain my weight back again. Now, since July the ride with the band has been up and down. I've had fills and unfills with flucutations in my weight. As of today, my weight is 135# which is still great, but I unfortuantely over the weekend I had a bout of the GI flu and after that I had great difficulty eating or drinking. So, under the recommendation of my surgeon I had everything removed from the band and another UGI. Thanks goodness, the band is fine. Now, I have to wait 2 weeks and then we can begin the fill process again. I know that this whole experience sounds overwhelming and at times it has been, but I could not have gotten where I am today without the lap band. I owe my life to the lap band.

What an interesting story. I am also scheduled to have surgery by Dr. Behsania. Right now it is tentatively set up for May 23 if the insurance approval is done in time. I am excited but nervous. I know I can do it, but it's just scary. I am looking forward to getting the weight off and hopefully ending these horrible Migraines I get and lowering the cholesterol.

Hello fellow Michigan folks!

I'm in the Ann Arbor area, and my Band procedure is being done by Dr. Poplowski at Barrix Clinics in Ypsilanti. I'm excited as weel. It's funny how different Dr's work. My Dr wanted insurance approval etc.. before they set my surgery date. I just got my approval last week, and still no date for surgery. I'm hoping to hear from them soon.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
