Lubbock experiences?

Recommended Posts

I've found two centers in Lubbock, TX and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with them. One is Advanced Bariatrics and the other is through the Texas Tech medical system called TTUHSC Minimally Invasive Surgery Center. I live in Odessa and wanted to find something a little closer than Dallas/Ft. Worth so that going for fills and whatnot isn't such a hassle. So anyone that has any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hey,

I live in Midland and Donald Davenport does the lap-band procedure in Odessa... I don't know if you knew this or not so I thought I would tell ya! I am trying to get all my paper work in so I can get approved!

Good Luck!:frown:

I actually just found out today that (a) my insurance will not cover the procedure and ( at least one of the two in Lubbock does not offer any sort of financing or payment plan. Do you know if Dr. Davenport does? I'm a teacher and there is no way I can amass $18,000 all at once...but I feel like the lap band is a very wise choice for me in the long run.

Here is the doctors site Dr. Donald D. Davenport, Jr. D.O. - Medical Center Hospital Bariatric Services Center and on the site it has a link for medical loans and here is that site for that https://www.efinancing-solutions.com/solutions/appwelcome.asp?oid=903&welcome=1

I hope my insurance covers it. I had my husband ask our insurance and they said they would if I had a letter of medical necessity. Anyway, I got that so hopefully it all goes through. The thing is... I looked at our health insurance plan last night and it says it excludes weight loss surgery so either they are now accepting it or they made a mistake! I prayed about it, and I believe everything will work out! I wish you all the luck! Let me know how it goes and everything! I will keep you updated too! :hurray:

I live in Odessa, Texas and I was recently banded by Dr. Davenport. I love his team and they are so awesome. I work at Medical Center Hospital and my insurance covered all of my surgery but I had heard thet they will let you pay them out over the span of year and you can then have the surgery as soon as it is all paid.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
