Recommended Posts

Thanks Bloo! I got my doctor to call me in some drops, so hopefully I'll get better soon.

Here's what I had today, I don't have the numbers though:

Breakfast- low carb slim fast

Lunch- 1/3 cup canned chicken mixed with melted cheese and ranch dressing

Snack- a handful of dry roasted edamame

Dinner- 1 cup pumpkin chili

What exactly is edamame?? I've heard others talk about it on here ... assumed it was some type of nut so I looked for it at the health food store (the place I drive 40+ miles to for the Caramel Latte shakes :() but couldn't find this edamame :confused2:

So My Surgery Is Feb 28th I Have To Go Low Carb 7 Days Before So I Will Be Joining Soon ,,,,

Welcome smsmithart! Congrats on your upcoming surgery and best of luck to you on your Lap Band journey!

Bloo, edamame is basically a soy bean. It's very high in Protein and Fiber and low in net carbs. In the frozen section at Walmart, there are some frozen vegetables by Green Giant called Healthy Weight Vegetables. It's a mixture of edamame, black Beans, sugar snap peas, and carrots that you steam in the bag. That's how I got started eating them.

FairyFacade posted that she ordered some lightly salted dry roasted edamame from snackaisle.com and I thought I would give them a try. The dry roasted ones almost taste like peanuts to me, very crunchy and they have a nutty taste. 1/4 of a cup has 130 cal., 4g of fat, 2 net carbs (10g total minus 8g of fiber) and 14g of protein. The only qualm I have is that they are a little dry since we can't drink while eating them. I have a hard time waiting 30-60 minutes afterwards, but they are very good and it's a good way to get in some low carb protein.

I know at Sam's you can buy them in the frozen section, but they are still in the pods, so after you cook them, you have to pick the beans out of the pod. My sister eats them that way all the time. I like them best in the Healthy weight vegetables brand, cooked.

Thanks for the info ... will check out that snackaisle.com.

Well, I did good yesterday until dinner :( ... the family wanted McD's so I had a snack wrap (which totally jacked my carbs up for the day!) Then a couple/few hours later when I had a sweet tooth, I had my last Atkins Endulge bar. Those are so good! And before I went to bed, I drank some milk ... right outta the carton. :smile2: So yeah I definitely went overboard with my carb intake, with that and the 2 days prior I am now up 2 lbs  Need to get back on track .....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
