I Am An Old Timer But I Am Terrified For What Lies Ahead

Recommended Posts

I have been banded since Nov. 10, 2005, I have lost 111 lbs. and have maintained it since July 25, 2006 and have been going to my weight doctor religiously. Of course until I lost all the weight that I had needed he was seeing me monthly. August of 2006 I was seeing him every 3 months to be sure that I was maintaining and also for not losing anymore, according to him.

I just saw him last week for my 3 month check up and he told me, I guess I don't need to bother you much anymore and I looked at him and I said, what do you mean? He told me that I have lost 111 lbs. and I have maintained a loss of 105% of my BMI so maybe I should just check in with him every 6 months or so. I feel as though I lost my best friend. I looked at him and told him, you are my incentive to keeping my weight off and I will still be seeing you every 3 months.

I don't know if I can learn to be without him. This has been such a hell of a journey for me and knowing that I have FINALLY kept my weight off for 1 1/2 years is an incredible accomplishment. It wsn't losing the weight, it was keeping it off. Can I trust myself without him to keep it off? I am so scared!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only that................

I have 10 more sessions with my personal trainer and that will be the end of story too. I have been with him a year and I am terrified also not having him either. Will I know what to do without him? Will I cheat on my sessions without him? All these final habits are making me feel like I will have started all over again, square one, and lonely, and distrustful of myself.

Does the fear of failing ever go away? Can anyone relate to me?

Josephine

OOPS ! I spelled the word "lies " wrong and sent it without checking my spelling.

First congrats on 111 lbs GONE:biggrin:

I can tell you that you most likely aren't alone in your fears

My fear isn't that I can't lose the weight it's that I can't maintain it after it's lost.

You have developed new habits - you will do fine

Have faith in you - Your doctor & trainers were helpers in this journey but you are the one who did all the work.

I understand the mentality you have- you are doing it because other people are holding you to it. Remember though you are doing this for yourself too!! I'm sure you can get another personal trainer if this one won't help you anymore, and if your doctor won't see you frequently enough maybe you can check in with a nutritionist or go to some sort of support group to keep up with the positive changes you have made in your life. I KNOW you can keep it up after all this time!! Believe in yourself, get the help you need and keep at it girl!! We are all rooting for you!:)

I can totally retlate to you. I have been banded since Jan 06 and have lost 150 lbs. and I am now getting to the maintanence stage. I go back in 6 months also and if I am still losing he is going to do a small un-fill but feels that I may platue now that I have lost so much. I went in November and till January I had lost 10 1/2 lbs. I want to lose 10 more lbs. to get to 120 lbs. but don't know for sure if I will get there. The doctor has said basically that your body would know when to quit loosing weight??? Let's hope it knows to go to 120 lbs......lol

You are all doing so great! I haven't been able to afford my trainer last month or this month and I really miss him and our sessions.

I plan to stick with him indefinitely, as long as I can afford it. My work out sessions are so much better with him. I work out without him as well, but it's not nearly as much fun.

Josephine, I am sure you can maintain without going to the doctor as much. You have learned new habits, and you still have your band to keep you from overeating.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
