Just Finished My First

Recommended Posts

Half Marathon. Today was the day, 10 months after the surgery, I ran and completed the PF Changs Rock and Roll Half Marathon. I ran the first 9 miles straight through, walked 1, and ran the last 3. I am proud to say that out of the 30,000 1/2 marathon runners I finished #8707 overall, and #4441 for the men, and finally #688 in my division. Not bad for someone who could barley walk less than a year ago. I have to say that I am proud of myself, and usually do not like to say that out loud. Today was a great feeling.

That is so AWESOME! I've been contemplating doing a run this year as a life goal of mine is to do a marathon. I did a walk/jog of 6 1/2 miles today. I can't imagine doing a half or whole marathon, but it is a process, just like the lap-band. Way to go Pete!!

That is awesome!!! What kind of training did you do to get there? I am getting my lapband on the 16th and once I can start exercising again I want to start training. I have researched several things but I don't know what is successful. I have never been a runner.

I had always been athletic, except for that whole weight problem. I basically just told myself that I would run this race last year after my surgery. I started off with a three minute walk three days after my surgery, and then slowly progressed. In the months leading up to the marathon, I was running about 28-30 miles a week. Nike's Ipod chip is a great way to track your progress. I can run 8 miles at an 8:30 pace and can do a 7:00 minute mile. Not bad considering I am still 230 lbs. I am also getting ready to start training for a triathalon. Biking is easy and fun, the swim should be ok. Just set goals and really stick to it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
