Question about Sleep Study

Recommended Posts

Hi..I am just starting out and am in my first month of the six month diet. I got a call today to set me up for a sleep study. I did not put down that I snore because I was afraid I could not fall asleep for the study. But now thay order it anyways. Which I am ok with because it could help me get approved. I am just wondering if I can take something before I get there to help me? Like a pm or Something? Will it change the outcome or not?

i dont think it will change anything even if you took something like tylenol pm because all they basically do is hook you up to a bunch of stuff and watch you sleep and record everything. and thats how they tell if you have sleep apnea. they cant tell whether you take anything or not.

I had 2 studies done, the first one they told me not to take anything to make me sleep any differently than normal. To me that was hard cuz I take ambien every night, but they wouldnt do it if I took it. The second one, they told me to take my ambien as a comparison and eval for a cpap. It was odd cuz without the ambien I qualified for cpap but with ambien I did not. I would ask your Dr , you dont want to affect the outcome and be placed on cpap if its not necessary or not qualify if you do need it. The cpap makes a huge difference in your band surgery needs and hospital stay. Better safe than sorry!

oh yeah and the paste they use in your hair to hook up the electrodes is DISGUSTING!!! Make sure you bring your own Shampoo and take a shower there with the hottest Water you can stand. Only really hot water dissolves the glue stuff. Otherwise you end up going home looking like Medusa. Also, dont count on really sleeping soundly, they were in bugging me like every 30 mins both times...felt like every 5 mins!

I was told not to take any over the counter sleep aid because it would interfere with the sleep study, but I could take Lunesta if my doctor prescribed it. I took the Lunesta and it helped a lot.

I had severe sleep apnea (since have had surgery to correct it), however the more tired I was . . . the worse my apnea was. So, if you have it mildly, I would suggest going in dog tired.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
