Recommended Posts

I am really wanting to do more than just walking/jogging I am almost 2 weeks post op and really wanting to get to the gym. I was curious how soon everybody was able to start working out.

Well, you need your surgeon's OK. But for me, I was given full physical clearance at one week. I was working out and lifting weights at one week post-op.

My doctor said that you need to wait 4-6 weeks post op. You have a lot of internal stitches and you can pull them or even worse if you lift anything more than 5-10 pounds. Just keep doing the walking/cardio until a few more weeks passes.

I was the same way, but please do not do it before you see your surgeon. It is so very important that you concentrate on healing, just because you think you feel good enough, you are NOT healed inside. It took along time for my insides to heal, and I am still experiencing tenderness at my port site after extreme workouts.

Be careful you need to take care of your new found friend!!! People who do not listen I believe will have more port issues than those who follow Dr's orders. I was 4 weeks post off before he would allow me back in the Water to do my aerobics classes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
