Losing a friend over lap band or bypass

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My best friend is having lap band in the next month. I am very excited for her and support her decision. Mainly for her health and to be healthy for her family & me of course...haha to live for a long time. I never gave it any thought but recently I have been noticing stories where people who have surgery lose their friends. My best friend also has fear of losing weight changing her. Now I am terrified to lose her, I would be devestated.... it has taken so long to find that special friendship. I love her so much. I wanted to know if anyone has had similiar fears or advice to help me through her transition. Please be honest.

Thank you so much for your time!!!

im sure this fear is in anyone including themselves family and what not. you think well if i get this how am i gonna be when i lose the weight. dont worry take one day at a time. you are who you are fat or thin. just be reassuring to each other as long as you support them through any obstacle in life you will be lifelong friends forever!! i hope this helped:nervous

I am having lap band surgery this month - my best friend is really against the surgery - not sure if it's because she's overweight too and "misery loves company" or she's afraid I'll have a different life - socially- after I lose the weight.

What she doesn't realize is I really need her support to get thru this instead of the "who will go to dinner with me?" I've taken her to one our support group meetings at the Doc's office, but it didn't help. She is so adamant that she would NEVER have this surgery.

I suggest you let your friend know how much you care and glad he/she is going to be healthy in their new lifestyle.

Sandy

Sometimes I think my friends are more excited than I am about the surgery! I am blessed with amazing friends...I can't imagine anyone in my life not being supportive. I have to say if there was such a person, I'd have to seriously think about continuing to allow that person to be in my life.

There's no use worrying about what may happen, just try and focus on all of the good that is going to come from the surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
