Salt Substitutes?

Recommended Posts

What are your thoughts on these? I know I consume way too much salt. What is the best substitute to use that won't cause any kind of problems? Does anyone know?

I love to use Mrs. Dash instead of salt. There are a few different flavors of her, extra spicy is great on eggs. But I was never a user of salt, so I don't know how it compares.

Have you tried switching from regular salt to sea salt? I think sea salt is supposed to either have less sodium in it or a saltier flavor (resulting in less needed), I'm not sure which.

Yes, I do use sea salt. I like it better, I just feel like I'm still getting too much sodium. Thanks.

There's a product called Nu-Salt, that's sodium free that supposedly tastes, measures, and sprinkles like salt. I've used it one time and I thought it had the oddest flavor. Sort of salt-like, but weird. My dad used it all the time, and he didn't mind it, so maybe it just depends on the person, whether you like this stuff or not.

When I was a kid my parents used Nu-Salt to try and help with my mother's high BP.

Parmesan is fairly salty, and I know a few healthy eaters who will go for a sprinkling of it over a sprinkling of salt.

Light salt was recommended to my mother when she did the Quick weight loss diet. Personally I can't tell a difference in the flavor. I am a salt addict too! Kosher salt has less sodium than regular salt and sea salt has less sodium in it too. If I am not mistaken, and I could be, I think kosher salt has less sodium than some sea salts. Go to the grocery store and compare the sodium content on the boxes. That is what I did when I was pregnant. I ended up buying Kosher salt, so that is why I am thinking it has the lowest sodium than regular and sea salts. Can't give any input on Nu-salt, never tried or heard of it.

I use sea-salt now, it's lower sodium than the 'normal' salt, and frankly I think it tastes a lot better!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
