1st fill tomorrow, SOOO scared !!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone !

My first fill is tomorrow and I'm so scared !

I not only have a huge fear of needles, I also have a very low pain threshold.

I am DREADING going in tomorrow - and I think it's mostly "fear of the unknown" - even though I've read all there is to read on fills.

Here's the kicker ...

I'm also VERY excited about getting my first fill and starting to lose some weight (I haven't lost since the week after surgery - and have basically just been maintaining)

Anyone else have this irrational fear ?

--------------------------------

UPDATE

Well, after barely sleeping last night because I was so scared (I *TOLD* you I was a wus) - it wasn't nearly as bad as I had expected.

I went in - laid on the exam table and told the doctor I was scared LOL. He had me hold my shirt up just past my port and told me not to move.

Then he went in. I have to admit that I did feel it - and it was NOT pleasant .. but no where near what I was expecting.

I felt the pressure, and I also felt the "gush" of Fluid. He put 5cc's in (he said I have a 15cc band) and sent me for my barium swallow (which was fine)

I bled a bit (enough to saturate a small gauze) - and it's sore now - about as much pain as when they have to take blood from the back of my hand - but I've had no "down time" since leaving the Dr's office.

I go back in a month - and I feel a lot better about it ... because even though it was uncomfortable/painful - at least I know what to expect.

Thanks for all your replies - :D

I'm not a big needle fan either, especially going in to my stomach! Honestly, though, it was no big deal. Stung a little going in, but it was not painful by any means. You'll be fine

It did pinch a little bit... don't look. Also, I was terrified that it would make me have incredible restriction... it doesn't do that on your first fill. In fact, my first fill made things easier for me to eat. Bear with it... it will work out. I've had 4 fills... and I've lost about 75 pounds. It's worth it!

I;m going for number 4 tday and really havent felt the needle in the other 3. It is so fine and not in an area of many nerves, so you will be ok. My first fill didnt do much either, so dont get discouraged. Some people on here got decent restriction right away from the first one. Post up with your story after you have gotten filled and let us know how you did.

I just had my 1st fill today, and I didn't even feel it. I hate needles & was so nervous. Getting blood taken stings more then this did. It was a breeze. Try not to worry. Hopefully your port is in a good place. It took 30 seconds to do my fill.

I'm sorry for the confusion.

My surgeon's office is in the hospital, so he sends you to radiology to do the swallow. If all's good - you go home, if there is a problem, you go back to the surgeon's office.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
