HELP It's just 7 days since I was banded and..

Recommended Posts

The difference in the doctors suggestions amazes me.

The facility where I went, considered a "Center of Excellence", instructed me to have 1 week of liquids, nothing specified this should be Clear Liquids. 1 week of mushies. Start of week 3 begin to work in solid foods. The nutritionist told me that if I am just starving and absolutely cannot make it to the 3rd week for solids to just be sure to chew, chew, chew and when you think you've chewed enough chew some more. They gave me a pamphlet of suggestions for each stage.

My doctor's office actually suggests against using Protein drinks beyond their liquid stage because they do not make you feel satisfied so you may consume more calories then you should.

It's hard to believe these doctors can have such drastic differences, but that each person should be sure to follow their doctors orders.

One thing that actually made me feel full on the liquid stage was adding a spoonful of Peanut Butter to a Protein shake. I couldn't finish it all.

3 days out with my band, and I am doing really good. REAL SORE in the area of the port. No extra gas pain or downside to my procedure thus far. My incisions look good, and I am not starving. Soreness is the only thing I have that reminds me that I have had a surgical procedure. Remember this is surgery and we do need to heal. My diet is restricted to high Protein Drinks, liquid Soups, Jello, pudding and lots of liquids, Water, etc. Vitamins 2 times a day and pain meds. Hope everyone else will do as well as I am doing.

CJV, Glad to hear you are doing good. You really do have the right idea. The early banding days are the time to make sure you heal well, and not the time to worry about weight loss. It will come on its own. I really went thru a lot of SF popsicles in the first week. That and lots of chicken broth....

Wow ! I had my band on Dec. 27th, 07. I have followed the diet to the mark ! I was told that the band and my stomach needed to heal on the inside. Basically saying that the dr wanted my stomach to not "work" to digest, thus the liquid diet....I am doing great and not feeling hungry or sick, and have followed the diet exactly as they said !?

I hear ya! I fell in LOVE weith cottage cheese with avacado mixed in and ate that ravenously for a few days. Thought I had died and went to heaven when I found Groton fish filets (Cajun!)....they were wonderful (and fall into soft food category) and I ate those for three weeks and they were a savior for me to feel like a "solid food" but not cheat. When I got so hungry I was thinking of licking the paint off the walls, I would go in and start eating sugar free Jello cups, each with 10 cal, one after the other. I could get through about two of them before I filled up, but it kept something going down and I was doing no damage calorie-wise or consistency-wise.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
