Are these bones?

Recommended Posts

Ok..this might be silly, but for the past 3 months I've noticed this bone..I guess it's my breast bone. Right in the center where your ribs end and it caves into your stomach?? That bone is really "there" now. Is it normal for it to be like a hump or what? I wish I could explain it better. Hubby says I probably didn't know I had it until now..lol. I just want to know if it's supposed to be there or if I'm just crazy. :)

My skinny son has a bone there. It's been "normal" for him, so I guess it is for you too. Isn't it awesome to see bones you didn't know you had or forgot you had?

That bone is called the Xiphoid Process. It is terminal point of your Sternum. It tends to be a pretty tender area to be whacked in, so remember that if you ever do get hit there. It seems to be the favorite place for my 3 yr. old to accidentally whack while we are wrestling... Well, that and my port...:)

OMG-I have been worried about that too and I am an anatomy teacher. I never realized how far the xyphoid process sticks out. I had to look at my skeleton at school. I am also amazed at how huge my hip bones are!!!:P

THAT IS SO FUNNY!!! After I had lost some weight I noticed this bone too...I thought it was my band!!!!! I told my doctor I thought I could feel my band and he snickered and reminded me that my band was very deep inside me and that you could not feel the actual band from the outside. I'm glad I'm not alone!

What cagstorm said! Yeah, the xiphoid process does stick out a long way. As an Intensive Care Nurse, we have to be careful with doing CPR - the bone can be easily fractured. I can't wait to feel mine!

I also had that concern. I recently had my mom feel that bone. I asked her what it was and why was it sticking out like that. She too thought it was odd. I knew if I waited long enough and searched these threads, sooner or later someone would answer my question. Thanks!

:P This reminds me a funny shopping experience w/my very skinny friend. She was trying on a skirt and my other friend and I both said we couldn't tell if it was good or not because of the security tag right at the hip. Well, yeah...you guessed it. It was her pelvic bone sticking out!

She didn't buy the skirt, and I think it was the only time I was glad I was fat.

I can feel my port now that I have lost weight. I can feel the back part thought the belly button.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
