Pregnant And Scared, Please Help!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello y'all

Ok so it's a new year and I just found out this afternoon that i'm pregnant. I think the 10 preg test that I took confirm it. Seeing as how it's friday both my OBGYN and my lapband doc office's were closed. I'm stressing out when I should be happy. I'm scared for 2 reason's. The first is that my first child who is now 2 yrs old was born 3 months early and was in the hospital for 4 months and almost didn't make it. I of course think this will happen again. Seeing as how my doc told me that pregnancy was next to impossible after my first child I never thought this would or could happen. The second reason i'm freaking out is bc of my band. I will be 1 yr post op on Jan 24th and have lost 90 lbs I've worked so hard to loose this weight and now I feel like i'm just going to gain it all back. I realize some people might see this as being very selfish but, this is a concern of mine. I've been "fat" all my life and DO NOT want to be fat ever again. I also wonder how many people out there have ben pregnant w/ the band and what their pregnancy was like. I'm looking for any advice I can get so please help. I hope to hear from some people who have been pregnant, know some one or are curretly expecting to help calm my nerves. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Hi Ryan,

I completely understand how you are feeling right now. My son is almost 6 weeks old and I experienced the same feelings you are right now: pissed off because all of the sacrifice you've done with your weightloss and now a baby to put it back on etc etc. Let me tell you that when I was about 3 months pregnant I went for 6 days without eating and realized that I was being selfish to my baby. I went and got completely unfilled (heaven by the way). My total weight gain throughout my pregnancy.... are you ready? 11 lbs! He weighed 9.2 of them! You will be surprised that you may not actaully gain alot of weight! You are so used to controlling what you eat that it is just second nature to not eat like it is your last meal again. I didn't crave anything like I did with my first child. I can tell you that even unfilled, the last month I experienced restriction in the morning as if I was filled. That was wierd! Don't stress it will all work out. Each pregnancy is different and you can't compare the two. Enjoy it while you can.

I immediately had my dr. cut my tubes! Good luck!

Karen

You will probably have a great pg this time with a FULL term baby, b/c of your great loss. Just eat healthy and cont to exercise moderately. You will gain a little weight but the nice thing is your band will be waiting for you and you have a priceless gift with that new baby. Congrats Jill

Aww, don't be scared!

I just had a baby Oct and I'm 2 yrs post op.

The pregnancy and labor went great. I had gotten a fill right before I found out I was pregnant, so I actually lost about 40lbs overall. But don't stress if you gain weight, or how much you do. Just like any woman, banded or not, it will take time to get the baby weight off, and you'll be back to your regular self, if not better. After the baby arrives, get your band filled back up, and you'll be back on track.

Try not to focus on the negatives. You are truely blessed. Good luck and congrats!!

Hi there,

I'm so glad you posted. I was banded on 10/4/07 and have lost ~27 lbs since pre-op. I found out last night that I am pregnant and I'm scared. I know we're supposed to wait a year. This is an exciting suprise, but I'd love to hear from everyone on their experience. Has anyone gotten pregnant only 3 months post-op?

Being pregnant doesn't mean you have to gain excessive amounts of weight. I know a bandster due February 7th and she has gained 19 lbs, which is just a few pounds shy of her target for someone who is overweight. Most of that 19 lbs is accounted for by the baby, the extra blood, Fluid, etc.

We are trying to get pregnant, but I'm nearly 2 years out. My surgeon would've killed me if I got pregnant 3 mos out, and pregnancy would have no longer been an issue. (We had to sign documents including one stating that we would use reasonable means of birth control for the first 12 months we were banded).

I can relate to many of the things you are going through.

My daughter, who just turned 3, was born prematurely (2 months) as well. I had been diagnosed with oligohydramnios (low amniotic fluid) during my 5 month sonogram. I was put on bedrest and had to have transfusions of saline to supplement my Fluid when I was really low. Before my daughter, I also experienced 2 miscarriages and thought I would have trouble sustaining a pregnancy at all.

I had my lap band surgery 18 months after my daughter was born and went from 238 lbs to 144 lbs in just over a year. I was 9 lbs from goal weight when I found out I was pregnant with baby #2 who is due in April.

I had mixed feelings about being pregnant at first. I worried whether or not I would have another high-risk pregnancy. I also worried about ending up right back where I started (pre-band).

I am just about 7 months pregnant now. To this point, all things have gone wonderfully. I think that starting this pregnancy over 70 lbs lighter has been a big help. Because my body was in better shape, I truly feel it has had a direct correlation with a healthier pregnancy. Because of my history, I do have monthly sonograms. All have been normal and baby is doing fine. I feel great too.

My band was loosened during the first tri-mester and the food just seemed to slide down like the old days. So far I have gained 8-9 lbs total (on track with my OB's recommendations) I will say that I have recently started having random days where it is difficult to keep all that I eat down. It has nothing to do with what or when I eat. I actually think it has to do with the position of the baby, because one minute I can eat as if I was never banded and the next minute I feel it in my throat after only a tiny bite of something.

I did speak to my OB and surgeon, and both feel that it is nothing to worry about unless I start to lose weight or experience it on a regular basis. As I progress in my pregnancy, I may get a total unfill just to be safe though.

Good luck to you, and don't worry. Even if you do gain weight, you have a great tool to help you lose it again!!!!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
