Recommended Posts

Dr. Garth Davis is doing my lap band on Friday 1/5. Is there anyone out there who had him to their band? If so will youo share your experience. I am really having jitters about the surgery.

I haven't seen him personally but I certainly liked him on the show Big Medicine.

I was scared to death for my surgery. You can do it and you will get through it. Just try your best to relax these next few days and not think about it too much.

Thanks baby girl. He is just as cute as a button and I did feel good during our office visit and he also has a good staff. I have pre-op on Thursday at 9:00. Yipes...Trying to do liquids for the next few days. So far so good. :)

Are you going to be one of his "stars" on his show as well? I love them on the show; they really seem to care about their patients doing all that follow up and pre-op work to make sure they are a good candidate.

Good luck to you, I love both him and his dad on the show. They seem to care a lot about their patients.

It comes on The Learning Channel (TLC). It's a really good show. They perform gastric bypass and lapband. I don't remember when it comes on, I have my DVR set up to record the new shows.

I watch his TV show, and is he the older one? Older one I love, I would have loved to have him as my band doctor!!!

The younger one is too arrogant, don't care for him. Or the shrink, she is unsympathetic to overweight people.

Woohoo for you :)

The little Dr. Davis is doing mine. Pre op tomorrow at 9:00...Yipes.

He was very nice both times I went to visit him at his office and he was really, really patient at both seminars I went to. There were so many questions - mostly about the bypass..My husband thinks I am in safe hands.

I agree about the shrink they work with. I didn't see her I saw a wonderful young lady and also a wonderful dietatician. I told the shrink the one on the show was always saying people are depressed that have other issues. Well when you get to big to wipe your behind of course you are depressed. When you flap all over your husband in bed that can be depressing too and there is nothing flattering about a size 22 regardless of what your best friend says. food taste good - real good and the band will be a tool to lifestyle changes.

We are self pay so we are doing some things we really wanted to do to pay for my surgery. I am having mine at University General in Houston instead of Methodist. I won't be a Bid Medicine "star". The price is half for the month of January and it has a GREAT baratric program. Friday morning - second surgery of the day. The GasX and liquid Tylonol are on the counter - went shopping today based on the blog telling everyone what you needed the first two weeks. Wish me luck.:ranger:

Wow! That's pretty cool. I just happened to stumble upon "Big Medicine" yesterday while I was flipping through the channels. I watched back-to-back episodes and was really impressed with them. I like the way both Drs. Davis tease and joke with each other. It seems like it would put you at ease to talk to them about things.

Good luck to you in your surgery! You're gonna do great! :)

Had my surgery yesterday and am doing fine. Pain 2 on a scale of 1-10. I took liquid pain med at home last night. Walking circles around the pool, drinking, breathing in the thing they give you to keep lungs good. BM already. I am sore but hurting not yet.

I would HIGHLY recommend to everyone. I will keep you posted

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
