The bubble that won't go away

Recommended Posts

For the last 12 hours, I feel like I have lump in my chest just below the bottom of my breast bone and my stomach is growling for the first time since I was banded, which was 5 days ago. Last night I really felt like I was having a heart attack!! I am still on liquids (can only consume up to 40 or so oz.) and Protein Drinks, 24 ozs,70 grams. Is there any chance there is something seriously wrong? I admit, the gas pain has been bad, but I finally started passing it yesterday and found some relief. I have done nothing except stayed on doctor's orders but this pain and pressure in my chest won't stop!

I know "eventually isn't what you want to hear. I am 5 days post op and still have a little pain in the same place. Most of the pain subsided yesterday. My aunt is a nurse and said that it is the air they pumped you up with that is just stuck.Walk,Walk,walk.It seems mine left almost all at once after I laid down after a long walk at the mall.

Good Luck. It'll get better.Did you try some Gas-X?

Thanks so much! I'm relieved to know it's not serious. Today looks like a nice day so I think I'm going to actually go for a walk outside. Hopefully that will help. Happy new year to you

Swelling, pressure, discomfort....all part of the process. I had huge pressure and discomfort in my chest for the first week or so....kindof like someone pushing their knuckle into my breastbone. It's your body telling you to take it S-L-O-W. Even drinking can irritate the swolen tissues. Tiny sips and often. Chew Gas-X. A heting pad helped me too. This too shall pass.

I had the SAME thing...then I went to the mall...ate something...burped...and it's gone! Don't know if it was the walking....or what...but it is gone! And I feel SSOOOO much better. Once it does you will feel so much better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
