I went for a week after surgery with no bowel movements. I was in pain. It was NOT liquid in, liquid out for me!! I called the doc in a panic and he said to take milk of magnesia. I did, and voila, all was well the next morning, BUT then I had trouble controlling everything. I went back to work on day 11 after surgery, and pooped my pants my first day back. UGH!!! Thank God it was just that once, but I do not trust my farts anymore.....

I've heard it's called a SHART!!! Funny but very true... it happens to the best of us. At least we know we're not alone in this sharting business! ;~)

I was banded on the 27th. Yay me! Anyway, since I have started on my Clear liquids I get the ocassional horrible gas pain. However, when I pass the gas I need to be on the potty. I seem to have gas and a surprise. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be concerned and call the doc?

Thanks!

J

liquid diet will certainly clean out the ole tubes for sure.

Kaopectate is good for this as it gels the stool instead of paralyzing your colon like other agents that then lead to Constipation.< /p>

Another thing to keep in mind is antibiotic induced diarrhea (pseudomembranous colitis) which some people get after the intravenous antibiotics given prior to surgery. This typically causes really watery stool and doesn't get better until treated. So, if anyone gets persistent watery stool it would be good to ask your doctor if they think you may have pseudomembranous colitis.

Hi J,

I was banded on Dec. 6th and had the same problem. :omg: It lasted about a week. When I started on mushies it seemed to clear up. My doctors office said it is not unusual to have diarhea during the liquid stage. Although it is irritating and can be embarassing I don't think it is a problem. My only advice is to be sure to keep sipping Water so you do not dehydrate.

Good luck,

S

iam a month out of surgery and since day one every time i eat or drink something it seams like i am walking on floors made of ducks, and little barking spiders, the funnest part is to blame it on my wife in public, lol she hates that, but i love to pick on her, and i find it gets to the point i cant control wether the spiders bark or i can wait to leave a room, hope it gets better but just dont feel bad, it happens, and yes even i sh+t my pants two days home from surgery, dont allways trust your farts, lol good luck and stick it out

But don't you feel squeaky clean inside?! Come on, there's a bright side! It costs $30 at the pharmacy to get that big tub of evil cherry flavoured goo to drink to get that "ready for a colonoscopy" clean... you're getting it for free!

Yeah, I tried...

I had a serious problem with NOT going after being banded. I thought I was going to wind up in the ER for help. Finally resolved it's self with the help of good 'ole Milk of Magnesia(sp). Now I take a softener everyday. Because we are eating small portions by the time out intestines are full enough to void it's a little hard. WOW that's TMI!!! lol

Hope it helps!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
