Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

My name is Tanya and I live in Las Vegas. I am 27 and a Pharmacy student working on my PHD. I just got banded on the 27th and am at home recovering right now. I am so glad I did it but am sore as well. Any advice on the first week out of the hospital? I am so glad to be here and meet all of you.

Hugs!

Tanya:clap2:

I also got banded on the 27th and I have lost 9 pounds. I am really sore and tired. But I found out that apple juice with your Vitamin and that will give you a little energy. I live in NC, so keep me posted....

Hi, this is Kathy from Phoenix. I had surgery on October 26, 2007. The first week is hard - the best advice I can give you is to take it easy. You will feel better soon! The worst pain was at the port sight and for some reason I never got the memo that you could ice that area. When I finally found I could ice it I did and it made a world of difference. Warm showers really helped, too. Just let the Water trickle gently over your incisions. Next week at this time you will feel about 80% better, I promise! And it will just keep getting better from there!

My surgery was at 4:30 on Thursday and I came home that night by 10:00. I was Nausea yesterday for about 4 hours. Today I have been walking around, taking deep breaths and drinking alot of clear fluids. So far, getting back on my feet has been the biggest help.

take it easy and accept help as much as possible and take your pain meds. I was sent home with some good stuff and I took it about every 5 hrs. I was band the 19th and I haven't taken any for 3-4 days now, still sore don't get me wrong but I think the pain meds was what was messing my bowels up so be careful. Congrads on the surgery. Keep us posted

I think the best way to describe it is more like discomfort...not so much pain. It was pain for the first day or two, and discomfort for a few weeks after. Big difference!

I am scheduled for surgery on the 4th and wonder how long you will stay home from work? I am a high school librarian so I'm on my feet and active all day. I don't want to miss too many days but I also don't want to return too soon. Any advice?

Shirley

My advice to you would be to take a full two weeks off. I am an xray tech and I was banded June 21,07 and that two weeks was just enough time off you will really need it if you are on your feet alot. Not so much pain after the first few days but soreness and getting your energy back. Some people go back after a week but I would never had made it.Good luckBanded June 21, 07preband/current/goal 270 / 236 / 150weight.png

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
