Marchies in the New Year

Recommended Posts

Yeah I know it is only the 29th of December, but I am on a new leaf of life. To make my New Years Res. and my goal I need a new start and a new year. 2008 will grant us all with wonderful things. First and for most losing more weight. I have been in a slump been the same weight for the last few weeks, these holiday's are killing me. My Christmas gift to myself was an Eliptical machine, considering I weighed to much before to buy one, I got under the weight limit and boy O boy I bought it, and LOVE IT. So needless to say I will make my goal hopefully by March 17 if not by the end of that month. That is my goal and I will continually kick myself in the butt until I reach it.:whoo:

Hello All,

I am also a Marchie, but new to this support group. I also have high hopes for the new year. Hubby and I are going on a cruise to Alaska in July so I have a wonderful goal to work toward.

The first thing I need to accomplish is getting my band at the coveted sweet spot. My doc can't seem to get it dialed in. First I am way to loose then need and emergency unfill. I am on the second cycle of that roller coaster but I have faith that my next fill will do the trick.

Well I wish everyone the best in 2008, good luck all.

Yeah, 2008!!! My only resolution is to get my house cleaned and de-cluttered. I am planning a hugh g-sale in the spring/summer and have a ton of crap..., I mean, some really nice stuff that I plan on getting rid of.

I also plan on exercising more and eating right, but that I decided is a lifestyle change and not a resolution. I really, really want to hit my goal of 170 by my b-day in Feb.

Well, here we go, the count down has begun for our 1 year mark. Hope everyone is doing great and keep up the good work.

Hi Barb,

I'm with you...I want to change my lifestyle to a healthier version, not just make a one second resolution.

Good luck to everyone in the new year and I hope we all meet (or get darn close) to our goals this year.

Keep up the good work all,

:clap2:

Happy New Year to you All!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still haven't gotten on that scale. Tomorrow will be the big day.

I know I need to drink more Water and to get in more vegies.

Just a quick question...Does anyone have trouble with leg cramps????? I get them about once a week especially at night when I am trying to sleep. Last night I was woken up with them every time I tried to roll over. I did dance a lot in the evening but still. Any helpful suggestions out there before I go running to my Dr. Thanks

HAPPY NEW YEAR, my Marchie Buddies!

I'm so happy to make resolutions that have to do with working on my house and being a better person in my relationships...well, I suppose that means my house is in bad shape and I neglect the ones I love, so I shouldn't be happy :) But really what it means is that food and my health are my largest concerns and I am overjoyed about that.

Rosi,

Try eating bananas or someone said drink pickle juice for leg cramps...I don't know the science behind it or if it's a old wives' tale, but there's a thought.

As for leg cramps. You can try Calcium as well as malic acid with magnesium. Those supplements all help. And bananas do too because of the potassium!

I have a list of resolutions. Getting the house done and clean and organized is tops on my list! Today DH brought in my last big boxes from the garage-- these are moving boxes from my apartment from August of '06. Well they are now empty and I'm sorting through stuff. The only things left of mine out in the garage now are a couple of boxes of kitchen stuff he wouldn't bring in because he was cold and crappy and about a dozen small boxes that have books in them. The books can stay out there for just a bit longer seeing as I have no place to put them. My current books that I am unpacking are just getting stacked up against the wall in my office. My shelves are overflowing, again. And I have boxes full of books and stacks of them downstairs. I need shelving! Lots and lots of shelving. Then this week I am scraping the popcorn texture off of the dining room and living room ceiling. I am not looking forward to the living room celing. We might need a scaffold for that part-- the celing is at an angel-- it rises so it gets up 16 feet and its a large room, so the square footage is huge. Then those celings can get primed and painted (I got a pro painting sprayer thing, thinking it would help with the celing). Then the old carpetting is comming up. The lovely new high end laminent is going down. New trim. Then the walls get painted. I hate scraping off the ceiling texture, not because it is hard, but because it gives me a sore back and shoulders. So when I do work on that, I count it as a work out. I spray it with a fabric softner Water combo and then scrape the area I sprayed with a putty blade. It comed off pretty easy.

Another resolution of mine includes the stair stepper. Five minutes a gym visit. I also start pilates on the 8th. I hope the gym isn't too crowded in January. I'm also going to be better in terms of scheduling my time and working ahead on things. And getting my husband to go household chores and doing them myself. oh, and I am sticking to a routine. I like routines. I think thats the gist of it. Maybe play with the animals more-- I think they want more attention.

I ordered a new scale recently, what with the way I broke mine again and all by stepping on it. What was I thinking... standing on my scale like that. This time I got a health o meter high capacity for about 70 dollars. a digital. I figure if it can handle up to four hundred pounds, my weight shouldn't be an issue with it. And its supposed to be a good brand, reliable.

Happy New Years, all!

Ok Rosi, I am not making this up. My grandma swears that if you put a bar of soap between the mattress and the sheet near your feet or legs that it will get rid of leg cramps. She read it in Dear Abby or something and has done it ever since. She even takes her bar of soap on vacation. I figure it couldn't hurt to try it, right?

Let me know if you try it and if it works. Good luck.

Kyethra, I remember my g-ma's Dr. telling her to make sure she's getting enough potassium or she'd have leg cramps. Check with your Dr., it's most likely a Vitamin issue. I've heard the Calcium thing as well from my nutritionist. Best of luck.

Can I just say that traveling/holiday has become a maintenance issue for me. Sheesh, what a pain. I know that I've been doing ok with it, but I need to create a better plan for when I travel. I've been visiting family over the past week, and it's crazy. I head home today and am looking forward to routine again.

Happy New Year Guys!

Annette

Well, today started off pretty crappy. My car wouldn’t start. My dh had to put the battery charger on it as it was flipping too cold. So I didn’t get to work in time to put in my mile walk. I work at an aquarium and 23 laps around the tanks makes 1 mile. I plan on trying for it during lunch. I also skipped Breakfast. I planned on having a Slim Fast when I got done walking and by the time I got to work and got started, I forgot about it.

And I’m with you, Kyethra. I plan on coming up with a schedule and keeping to it. I want to have a weekly workout routine that I am going to incorporate my treadmill, stepper, elliptical, and weight machine. I know what I want to do on everything but the weights. I am thinking that on x number of days, do upper body, than on other days, lower body. I also want to start using my ab-thingy. I don’t know what it’s called, but you get on your knees and hold this “roller” by the handles, push forward and then pull back. It has resistance both ways. When I first got it (years ago) I did like 10 reps and the next day had to have my dh help me out of bed as my stomach muscles were extremely sore. I plan on starting slow with this thing, maybe like 3 reps for a few days, then add 1 more every other day and work up to about 20-25 reps. I want to have this schedule in place by next Monday. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Well, hope to have a better rest of the day. I have to get everything set up for ’08 and get all the ’07 stuff put away today at work.

Happy New Year Marchies!

My kids were sick last week, and of course, Sunday night I got it. THANK goodness it wasn't the vomiting end, that's my big fear, dislodging my band. I did lose 5 lbs, probably all Water, but I'm determined to keep it off. Shoveled snow (we got 6 inches last night) for about 35 minutes and felt good, since I haven't been exercising regularly. Keeping on plan today.

It seems my band has been tighter the last few days

2 oz of mahi-mahi and approx 1/4 C of steamed cauliflower & broccoli and I was full at lunch. (I love eating out now, I can get 3 good meals for 1 price!)

Watch out 2008...here come the Marchies!

I just signed up for both sparkspeople.com and fitday.com. Do any of you use either and what one easier? I want to keep track of what I eat and how many cals I am getting. Most days I know I don't get enough and others, too many.

I used FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal most of last year until I got my bodybugg and I use their calorie counter now.

I found fitday to be easy to use particularly once I got my regular foods data entered.

Good for you.

dems,

Happy New Year to you too! 2008 is going to be FANTASTIC, indeed!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
