Does $17,000 Seem too High for this surgery??????

Recommended Posts

I paid $13,000 in Houston. Dallas was at least $17,000+ anywhere I checked. There is a doc in Colorado that does it for $9,000 but I don't remember who and if it included after care.

I love my Houston doc and the price does include all fills for the first year - as many as I need. I've had 4 so far :)

Good luck to you!

Dr. Kirshenbaum, linked in my signature, just under 10K. Awesome surgeon, beautiful facility, zipper quick recovery.

In the Atlanta area, it was going to be over 20K for me as a self-pay, so I decided to have my surgery in Denver. We are fortunate enough to have lots of Skymiles accumulated, too, so I'm going to follow up there as well. Even if you factor in flights, rental cars, and hotel rooms, though, it is still less expensive than here. Plus (and most importantly), I felt really confident that my chosen doctor was experienced and highly qualified.

Good Luck!

In Alabama, my doc charges a set amount for self-pays. $15,000 for band, $18,000 for RNY. HOWEVER.. that does not pay for the consultations & psych eval.. (another $250 about). And then the hospital he does it at, jerked me around on both surgeries, and charged above and beyond. It's suppose to include $500 for anesthesia in the $15,000. Doc said I was in and out quickly, and it took 32minutes. The $500 is for 30 minutes. They charged $500 MORE for the extra 2 minutes. So when all was said and done I paid $15,750.

And then the revision surgery was another $2,500.

Phew. I sure hope I get a good tax deduction wink.gif

I was told 17k by a doctor in Orange County, CA. I went the other route and went to TJ and had it done with Dr. Ortiz for 8500. I am completely happy with my decision, state of the art facility, great quality of care and no complications at all after surgery. ( I am in the medical profession and have worked in several different hospitals, his clinic was the cleanest I have seen) I live only 1 1/2 hours away from TJ so it was a good choice for me. ALways something to look into, I know it sounds scary, I was freaking out until I got to the clinic, then I was at ease. You could find a Dr. near you that will do your fills. Do a search for fill centers, they work with Dr. Ortiz's patients. I have a fill center in my home town so if there is an emergency I can just go there for an unfill if needed. Just my .02, others may disagree.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
