Having a cold with the lap band

Recommended Posts

I have had a cold and I can't seem to keep the antibiotics or other medicine down. Evertything seems to turn to mucus or phlem. Has anyone else had this problem.

Poor you! The only positive thing I can think of at this point is that with it just being a cold, medication is really not going to affect it. I was told with treatment a cold will last a week, without it, it lasts 7 days! Hopefully yours will ease up soon.

What kind of meds are you trying to take? Have you tried liquids? How are you taking them? And how far out from being banded are you?

Welcome to LBT! We actually have quite a few nurses around, hopefully one of them will have some good ideas for you!!!

My band date was 10/6/2006. The meds do not stay down either due to having to crush them or open the capsule. Yesterday after my post was better. I am hoping to be on the upswing.

Sometimes the meds are just too strong on the stomach for that, have you checked with your Dr, to see if there is a liquid option? Or a childs dosage you could multiply times you take it during the day? Both are easier on the stomach. liquids can be sipped along with something even like Maalox to ease the discomfort due to irritation.

I do hope it continues to improve--if not call the Dr. back as many times as it takes, that is what we pay them for--to help us! Many times even their staff can give you good advice for dealing with common issues! My Dr.'s staff is awesome!

Continued improvement thoughts being sent your way!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
