Unsure if I should do it

Recommended Posts

I have completed all of my clearances, lost my 10% which put me at about a 35.2 BMI. My consult appointment with the surgeon is 1/3/08.

Everyone keeps telling me I don't have enough to lose to risk surgery, however, my physician is telling me different. I carry all of my weight in the middle. :help:

CTerry-girlfriend, who is all these everybodies. unless you have sybil like symptoms, girl its all about what is best for you. wavering with your decisions only cause you to not get it and then a couple months down the line, you wished you would of gotten it. i wish you the best of luck in your decision. But coming from me and mostly everybody on this forum, this is the best decision i've ever made!!!!

Like you I carry all of my weight around my middle as well. My BMI is around 35.4. The last time I visited my Dr. I had lost 2 lbs. I wasn't trying to. I work in a busy setting and I am on my feet walking about 6 out of 10 hours a day. I didn't have to do a pre-op diet nor did I have to lose any weight. Best wishes to you and yours!

I also wonder if i am going to make the right decision about getting banded. I have no firm date yet but i am looking at probaly april of 08. What i keep telling my self is this....

Do i want to be 40 and fat? no

Have i told myself for the last 16 years that I was going to start the new year out right? yes... have i succeded? no

Do i have choices to make? yes

have i been a overeater? yes

now is the time to do something about it and for myself.

I look at my mother who has been overwieght most of her adult life and has high blood pressure and 2 knee replacements and complained all of my life about her weight and decided i have to take the weight into my own hands and get active.

I'm being banded in 2 days! I've felt all the same things.. and even some morbid things.. (like my husband bringing in some hoochie mamma if something happens to me)

It's scary! I'm still scared. But.. I know it's whats best for me. Many of the people on here have given me hope, encouragement and lots of support.

What are you afraid of? Is it because of losing your lover (food)?

Is it because you fear surgery?

Really.. what are your fears? Mine was losing my food, and the thoughts of depriving me of my greatest pleasure (food).

(which is totally not true, because I will be able to eat pizza again.. just not a whole one!)

Remember:

Roger Von Oech said it best when he said: “There are two basic rules of life: Change is inevitable and everybody resists change.”

Embrace the change, love it, and accept it.

We all love you, and just as many are here to support me.. they will be here for you as well!

Huggles, Dear One,

OMG! Jazzy woman you hit that one out of the park!!! that is exactly true for me too, I too have wondered, do i really need to do it? and you are exactly right, if I could do it alone I would have already done it. I too have made too many resolutions to even remember them, then recommitted later in the year and have never been successful! I have had many successes in my life, family, business, etc, but never ever have I been able to conquer this monster! I want to be healthy and feel good about myself. I know that my second thoughts are coming from losing my always faithful lover........FOOD! About not being able to turn to it when I am lonely, scared, tired, bored, etc. I was scheduled to do this last year and my father became ill and so I didnt do it, fast forward to 2007 and now i am heavier. I let others convince me i could do it myself and so I tried AGAIN and failed miserable, for me I believe it is the best decision and for that I am willing to change my lifestyle. I do have to do the preop diet and I was supposed to start yesterday. I can wait, this will be the year I finally do take off the weight, my new motto is.......LOSE THE W8 IN 2008!!!;)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
