How does one become a disciplined eater

I have been an overeater all my life. Since the band , of course I can only eat so much. I am very inspired by all of you who say they only eat what they are supposed to. For me , I still cant seem to motivate myself to eat only healthy . For the first 9 months or so I did real good. Like sooooo many other diets in my life , I ate the right foods and didnt throw up and really did lose a lot of weight. and again like so many of my other diets I lost it. Now I can only eat so much if I eat the right things. I wont say what kinds of foods so that I dont tempt any one else to try those foods, but there are some that just slide right down. So my question is if any of you out there were dieters before and kept failing, after months of the band when a regular diet would have failed you , what inspires you to continue to eat the right food? Im not a rediculous person and Im waiting for answers like ( the weight loss or you feel great about yourself) . Well thats exactly how I felt when dieting before the band. but still I would lose that motivation.

I really wish that something in here could motivate me to only eat right.

I have learn to be with the help of the bodybugg it teaches me to burn more calories than I consume I burn 1500 more caloires than I eat if you do that for a week you can lose between 2-3lbs a week seeing it in black and white every night helps me (right it down keep a journal)

I read about the bodybug and It looks wonderful but I find it a bit pricy. Who knows ? I guess if you can find the money for the surgery then another $500 shouldnt be that big of a problem. But Id have to hear a lot more about users of them and the longevity of their use with it. Im the kind of girl who buys a treadmill and uses it for 3 weeks. Id hate to do that with the bug and not use it.

Truthfully, with good restriction I eat so little that I really only have a choice of healthy foods to ensure I get in all the nutrients that are required. So for me its not a matter of will power. Its more a matter of must.

I'm having a problem myself. I just got banded Dec. 6th - and I lost 6 pounds the first week. I'v gained 4 of them back as of today. I'm making bad choices and started regular foods high in carbs (like mashed potatoes) too soon. I don't have hardly any restriction it seems. I'm going in for a fill Jan. 8th. I'm getting that "I'll start eating the right things tomorrow..." attitude. That's what got me where I was before surgery! I'm so ashamed....

I have no restriction right now this may sound crazy but sometime I eat something and then spit it out I just miss certain tastes and get it and then spit the food out I did this with a brownie today after that I didn't want it.

Tina the body bugg is a gadget that you wear strapped on your arm. It monitors the amount of calories you eat by the way your body reacts to food. At the end of the day or any time in between you can check the amount of calories youve eaten vs the amount youve worked off. To me it would be cool to have . I know that Ive been eating more then im working off but I think if you looked at the gadget and it said ok you have to work off 320 calories youd know about where to start. Ive seen a few people in here talk about it.

Thats exactly what ive been doing. Of course its nothing like eating 2 steaks or a giant bowl of mashed potatoes like before but it could prevent you from losing. im so confused sometimes at how restricted you should be. if i were any more restricted then I am now then I wouldnt be able to eat mashed potatoes but since I can eat the mashed potatoes and quite a few other choice things , ( then i do) I dont think i could return to the 110 lbs bigger that I was originally but i do see myself regaining a bit of them.

Geez! I told myself - I'm going to follow the rules... And I did pre-surgery - I did a liquid diet for 10 days & lost 12 pounds... But, like I said, I've regressed to old ways and yummy tasting things. I know I can do it. It's easier to do the wrong things sometimes... I'm going back on liquids before I get "re-filled" on Jan. 8th...

I am only 5 months out - I wasn't a big junk or fast food eater to begin with - I just ate too much food period and didn't exercise - I did eat high fat and sugar foods before - I would make a tamale pie on Friday nite and it would be 3/4 gone before i went to bed and some times it would be all gone...

For me it has just become a lifetime lifestyle way of eating - I eat 4-5 oz of fish for dinner - 1/2 c rice and veggies - i am full .. I don't keep junk in the house - If I do go out to eat (about once every 2 weeks) I eat 1 taco instead of taco, enchillda, rice & bean -

I record all my food & exercise in my food diary - I exercise 4-5 days a week.

IMHO i took very drastic measure by having surgery to lose the weight so i am utililizing the tool that I have been given

I want to live and i think after 52 yrs i have really got it - that it's is a lifetime lifestyle change - i have never lost this amount of weight on any diet before - the most i have lost was 35 - 40 and that was with the help of drugs...

When I had surgery I was in it for the long haul. I seriously wanted a lifestyle change. I don't want to live off the bad stuff anymore. I eat bad things about once a month and I'm done. Most of all for me it is a matter if I start on bad carbs I can't quit. For me it really is all or none. I choose none.

I could eat Cookies and candy, that stuff just slides down. But I know if I start I can't stop. So I avoid it.

Over time you start to lose some of your obsession for food. Look at the posts, the newbies are ALL about food... what can they eat and how much can they have. There are people that decline banding because they might not be able to eat bread again. That is a serious obsession with food! Then look at posts from the old timers... it's rarely about food their posts are about living life. See the huge difference? Check it out. The only time old timers even talk about food is if they are answering a question or they have a funny story to tell.

For me I can't say the obsession with food is gone but I can say that for the most part I gained control over it. Nothing nicer in the whole world.

And Bandorita... you are making serious mistakes if you are bumping up the post op diet. It is NOT designed to be in place just until swelling goes down. There is a great deal more to it. The post op diet sets the tone for the life of your band. Swelling is minor, that goes away in a few days. It's a matter of adhesions on your stomach. Do you know that since US docs started easing up on a strict post op diet the stats for slips have gone from 3% to 7%? Those are just the reported stats, not all of them.

You are playing with fire and you are risking your band for potatoes. I'm telling you, it's just not worth it. While I totally understand it I do not support it. I want to see you keep your band for life.

Hi, I was banded by Dr. Marsden on 12-10-2007, my first fill is scheduled for 1-14-2008. I am doing O.K., I've lost about 12 pounds, however, I think I should be losing more. Do you have any suggestions on exercise? I'm still having some pain at the port site.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
