I am three years post sleeve contemplating revision surgery and I am trying not to do food funerals this time. I still don’t have a surgery date though so let’s see how I feel as I count down the days. . I am thinking I am going to have the SADI so I really May have stuff I can never tolerate Again. Now I’m thinking…maybe just one last meal, lol. But if you are like me and carbs make you crave carbs maybe stop these a few days before your scheduled to start the pre op. Otherwise the preop will seen that much harder. Just FYI also, With the sleeve I was able to tolerate anything post surgery and I’ve heard the same from a lot of people who have had bypass (although they can sometimes only have very small amounts of certain things).

After reading everyone's comments I have decided not to go too mad with it haha. I will be mildly restrained!

I think the LRD is going to be helpful in weaning me off of sugar and other things that I tend to binge on, so I am just preparing for that!

What is LRD? I do not “binge” per say but I do tend to eat because of emotions and it’s always bad choices and more fhan I should eat is LRD a type of surgery or a Medication or something else?

LRD is the liver reduction diet that most people are required to go on before surgery :)

Ooh okay. I just never heard the acronym. Yea. If the carbs make you crave more carbs but you can do a diet once you get going (until you’re tempted with something or you have a stressful day or whatever) then try what I did. I just ate healthier the couple days before. Basically lower carb but as much of it as I wanted so I wasn’t hungry. Then, MY preop diet wasn’t bad at all. I’m all fairness, though, I was allowed one low carb meal a day so mine was a little easier than some. (I’m not sure if this was because I started at a lower BMI or just because my doctor has a different plan).

Me and hubby have had this food conversation recently. On my list is pizza Hut, a fillet steak dinner and a chippy tea. Other than that, I can’t really think of anything else that I would want, maybe a burger at some point but I think everything else can wait and be adapted post-op or shared with hubby (though not chippy tea as he hates it 😳) We are off to London soon, staying in a posh hotel for 3 nights so I know that I will probably lose the run of myself come Breakfast time! I’ve already scoured food places around where we’re staying and around Covent Garden. Greek is on the list and booked as I like chicken souvlaki, which I know is a relatively good choice. Other than that I will just play by ear. I know it’s our last break away for a long time so yes, there will be some indulgences but I will still try and keep some form of control!

It is quite a shame that we have to fund it ourselves if we don't want to be waiting 5+ years! But as you say, in the long run it is worth it, and I know I will feel that way too. I agree with you on that - I don't see how the NHS will be able to improve, given that they aren't getting anymore funding any time soon... 😅 But thank you, selling my house was going to happen regardless, but now I have a purpose for some of the money which I will be grateful eternally for!

Oooo you have given me things I need to add! Chinese is right up there! A full English too yes! You went for it, rightly so!!

I'm actually getting my surgery on the NHS. To be honest, I feel like I won the lottery because I was approved for surgery in May 2024 and I'm getting it in October 2024. The surgeon said to me it was extremely unlikely it would happen before next year! But I guess the downside is they gave me the option of sleeve or bypass and those were the only options.

I would love a last fry up, but sadly, I'm on milk diet for 12 weeks until surgery and then after that, I don't suppose I'll really want food for at least a month.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
