Two weeks banded...Need Advice!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 12/5 and have been struggling. I have a post op appointment tomorrow and am looking for some advice.

The only time I do not have discomfort is when my tum is totally empty.

The doc put me on soft foods right from the get go.... in the hospital.

(cottage cheese, yogurt etc)

Every time I eat....4oz of anything, even drink, I have pain and discomfort. Feels like a big fist in my upper stomach, at the highest incision location. Not sure if it is heart burn, or other issue.

I have been taking the medication (protonix) and gas x.

I have also been sliming after eating and sometimes just a Protein Drink.< /p>

Like I said.... the only time I am comfortable is when I do not consume anything.

I will go over this with surgeon tomorrow altho I would really appreciate some feedback to be prepared for the visit.

Thanks in advance!!

I have a 10cc band without any filled at surgery time.

Hi,

When I get the golfball feeling I've either - eaten too fast - eaten too much or not chewed my food enough. It's a scary feeling and you have to wait till the food passes through the band or sometimes it comes back up, a PB - productive burp - like regurgitating.

Hope this helps,

Yvonne

Does this still happen with Clear Liquids? I cant believe that some doctors dont do a liquid diet after surgery. I would guess its from eating too quickly and not chewing enough. Either that or the band is tight, even without a fill. Be careful during this time. Now is when the band needs to settle and adhere to the outer stomach wall, to prevent slipping later.

I was banded on 11/27 and was on very small , slow sips of clear liquids for the first week. Try going to clear liquids first and only tiny ( 1 oz) sips for a few days. things have to heal first.

Hi:

Welcome to band land. I'm surprised that you're eating soft foods already. All the doctors are different. I was on liquids for a couple of weeks, then soft/pureed foods.

I have issues when I eat too fast still. So, I use a one-minute timer between bites. I bought a few of them on UnclesGames.com has board games, card games, jigsaw puzzles, dominoes, dice, and much, much more. They only cost about $1.50 each. They help me to be able to eat without sliming and pbing after by slowing me down alot.

Hope all works out. Keep us posted after you see the doctor.

Sue

I can not even imagine being on soft foods right after surgery. I had problems getting down clear liquids, it would literally take me 15 minutes to have 1 ounce of Water, yes I was constantly drinking.

It sounds like you need to either slow down eating or maybe thin out those soft foods with some milk or other Fluid.

I couldn't get a protien shake in until 3 weeks post-op, they made me slime and foam. I wasn't on soft foods until 4 weeks post-op. And in the mushie stage I couldn't even finish 1/4 cup of ff ricotta cheese at a time. I was really swollen from the surgery and had AMAZING restriction. Trust me it goes away.

:welcomeB: to LBT!!!!

There is a GREAT forum here called the FAQ and References forum (it's the first one on the home page list of forums), it's got LOADS of information in it, that's where I'd suggest going and reading, reading, reading. It helped me quite a bit.

From that forum, here's a helpful thread about abbreviations and terms we use:

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
