Hi,

I had RNY on 12/20/22 in Ohio. About a month after surgery, it was discovered I had a stricture. I had two upper endoscopies and was stretched back to 12mm. (They could not measure my stricture at first because they couldn't get the scope in. She guessed it was between 4-5mm). Since I had to wait for an appointment I didn't really eat solid food for a month. I "ate" Liquicel to get my Protein in.

I am now 4 months out. The stricture is gone and I feel good. Since I missed an entire month of eating and had to start back at pureed foods - do you think that is why my hair is already falling out? Now 4 months out, I eat my protein goals and do fine with Water. I am not super concerned about the hair but just wonder if that could be causing it?

My hair started falling out around the 4-month mark, too.. I had a pretty rough go of it in the beginning as well. At its worse, I had lost 75% of my hair and it stopped falling out by around month 6. I took supplements and collagen during that period of time and now it is growing like a weed (and it came back in CURLY!)

Hi Michelle, how did you know you had a stricture? Was the "food" just not getting into the stomach so you vomited? Was it painful to eat? I just moved on to pureed foods and am trying some thinned with yogurt Malto-O-Meal and it feels like it's getting to my stomach, but almost a little painful. Figure I'll stop eating it and see how it goes. I'm glad you're doing better!

Mine started out just feeling like food was stuck in my throat. Anytime I would eat anything it felt "stuck" and my mucus membranes would go crazy (runny nose, feeling like I was salivating a lot). I could eat 1 bite and feel so uncomfortable. Then it started happening with liquids. I could not drink anything until 3-4 hours after trying to eat. I would vomit continuously if I tried to eat also. I always felt it in my throat tho, not my belly.

most people do lose some hair - it usually starts about 3-6 months after surgery - so I don't think the stricture would have affected that. You likely would lose it regardless.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
