Hi everyone! I’m having trouble keeping down my calcium citrate chewable, every time I take one I am immediately hit with nausea. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting that down? My nurse had mentioned powders, pills, etc. What works for other people? Also, I am running out of my multi Vitamin chewable. I was taking the lemon flavor which was okay. Does anyone have any flavor or flavors they particularly enjoy from the brand Bariatric Advantage? Thank you!!

it might be the artificial sweetener they use in that chew (?). Anyway, there are lots of options for calcium citrate. Most drug stores sell one or two brands of Calcium citrate tablets (vs. several brands of calcium carbonate, which we're not supposed to take since it's not well-absorbed by us). I look for the "petite" version of calcium citrate tabs (I've gotten them at Walgreens - but other stores may have them as well) since I like them better than those big horse pills.

there is also a powdered form of calcium citrate, but I don't know how easy it is to find in stores. You can order it online, though. NOW makes it - and so does Upcal D. I used to buy the latter. You can mix it into food or beverages, but Upcal D, at least, doesn't really dissolve - it just suspends in liquid, so you have to shake your beverage before every swig. I ended up just mixing it in with yogurt.

FYI the BariatricPal Calcium chews are made in the same facility that makes the Bariatric Advantage calcium chews. The BariatricPal chews cost a lot less + they have added probiotics.

I like the Bariatric Advantage multi chewable in Tropical Orange and strawberry Watermelon. These are the only two I’ve tried, but both are great 👍

Those are both excellent, and I use them too, but the multis don't contain much if any Iron, Calcium, or magnesium so you still probably will need to supplement those minerals specifically. It's important to read labels for any supplements you take. I use the calcium chews from the same brand, and BariMelts Iron + Vitamin C.

Yup, I also take a separate iron pill from the same company and dissolvable magnesium at bedtime.

I like the dinner mint ones from Pro Care health. Ask them to send you samples to see if they will work for you.

Good, good. I didn't realize that those Multivitamins were less "complete" than I thought for a few months after I started taking them, so I just wanted to keep someone else from doing the same thing.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
