Hi guys, anyone else getting nausea from eating and drinking a lot of the time? Maybe 50% of the time. Especially first sips of drinks. I also feel nauseous especially in the morning when food or drink hits stomach. Also, often feel lock half an hour after eating, for 1/2 hour to an hour. Anyone else or just me?

I didn’t realize that’s what it was but I get it from time to time. I also feel like I get heartburn but not with the full burn of that makes sense. So sometimes I have to take those antacid pills.

hope everybody is doing good and hanging in there.

That happens to me too like you said it's not a full-blown heartburn but is a tiny bit and I still have my baby heartburn medicine so I take that

Anyone struggling with major depression? I'm so sad all the time. Just haven't felt well since surgery so I know that plays a part of this sadness. People say I'm mourning food but honestly I couldnt care less about food. I'm struggling with the discomfort and side effects of the surgery. I sometimes just get this overwhelming feeling of sadness.

I'm down 50lbs from right before my pre-op diet but, I've been struggling with textures still, but I found some solutions for the meantime until I can tolerate more. I can't do the Protein Shakes anymore but I add unflavored Protein Powder to anything I can.

Cream of wheat/rice cooked in chicken Bone Broth with a bit of cheese is a great high Protein base for things. To increase the protein I started adding a jar of baby food chicken or turkey. I occasionally add a jar of the veggie blends to it if I want to change things up.

I also am really liking greek yogurt- ranch powder for savory cravings and sugar free jelly or fruit baby food jar mixed in. Going to make some frozen bars with that. But I can eat the ranch blend with a spoon straight out of the tub.

The other thing I've been doing is using liquid egg substitute, mixing that with the ranch yogurt and cheese and cooking it up that way to make nice fluffy eggs with flavor and lots of protein. Gotta have my sugar free ketchup though!

Another thing that helps me with the nausea feelings is baby animal crackers. I've found I'm having heavy cycles since surgery so I'm craving carbs around that time, and those have Iron in them. Not trying to become anemic and these are lower carb and break down pretty easily without textures.

For fluids, I cannot drink plain Water. I gag and can't tolerate it at all. It has to have some sort of flavor and "thickness" or "body" to it. So I do 1/3 of a bottle of sugar free Powerade and fill the rest of the bottle up with water. The true lemon powdered drinks with stevia are good too! But I'm trying really hard to get my fluids in.. it's a hard task every day.

All of my bloodwork is fantastic thankfully... but hydration is holding me back. I've had both legs swelling up daily from dehydrated water retention. Minimal hair falling out but some.

So, the whole being unable to drink Water thing, it's not in my head like my partner wants to think lol. He thought I was just being difficult that I had to have some sort of flavor and sweetener because water is too "thin" and just "wrong".. I was feeling dehydrated the other day after being out longer than expected and I ran out of my drinks that I brought with me.. so I ducked into the dollar tree and the only thing I was allowed to have in the fridge case was a water. I had some lemonade packets buried somewhere in the car- but I took a swig of the water - not a gulp or anything and the second it reached my esophagus, it turned right back around. Instantly rejected. He got to witness it live and in person finally that my body is literally rejecting just plain water. It's like the wires have been crossed and I react physically like the water is poison. So then this man literally spent over a half an hour in a sweltering parking lot digging around for my lemonade packets! He's a believer now for sure.

In other news.. I am now officially at my pre-severely traumatic event weight! 60lbs down! Lets go!!!! The pool has been GREAT exercise!

Hi everyone

how are we all doing? I still get pretty bad nausea most days after eating and drinking. Some days I can barely eat. It’s so weird. I get scared and panic I will never be able to eat a normal meal again and this makes me so distressed.

Yeah... the nausea has actually gotten worse lately for me. I'm on strictly soft foods still (scrambled eggs, cream of rice, etc) or really crunchy foods that grind up in my mouth like these almond flour cheese crackers (they've got a decent amount of Protein for a "carb-like" snack) or ultra dry toast with some sugar free jam, or the baby/toddler animal crackers from Gerber.

I made the "mistake" of eating a hard boiled egg this morning and even though I chewed it well, it did NOT sit well at all. Deli meats do the same thing. Anything with texture or density to it makes me feel like it needs to come back out. And plain Water still comes right back out IMMEDIATELY. But if there's sugar substitute and some color and flavor, my body accepts it. I've been drinking freshen up energy because it's sugar free and is a clean energy without all the bad stuff in it. Just the equivalent of a single cup of coffee and some B Vitamins. And I like the way it tastes so I definitely am doing better at meeting my fluid goals, which was a struggle before.

Struggling to get my Multivitamins in as taking pills sucks. And I've been getting heartburn here and there if I forget to take the pantoprazole I was prescribed. But I found some GOOD Calcium "chews" at the natural food store - it's literally chocolates instead of the tootsie roll like chews most end up being. I got the dark chocolate because for some reason milk chocolate tastes like poison to me.

Wow… so I’m not alone. Same here, nausea seems to be worse lately. Yeh I can only really eat dry biscuits without nausea, maybe some baked beans… but 90% of things cause me nausea. I don’t see how I’ll ever make my daily Protein goals. Just seems impossible.
Water makes me puke too!
i really hope it won’t be like this forever? I am 3 months post op exactly. Shouldn’t we be ‘Healed’?!?!

Hi all - I'm so sorry to hear of what you are facing guys; I'm sure you had not bargained for that! I wondered what procedure you all had. I had a gastric bypass and seem to have healed well thus far. I only feel nauseous very occasionally and the feeling is fleeting and thus I'm not actually put off of eating my food. I have not yet experienced 'dumping' and threw up only once much earlier on. I have not yet had a bad reaction to anything that I have eaten but I do try to be careful. I'm three and a half months post surgery and feeling ok. I swim daily and feel sufficiently healed so far. Have you all spoken to your health team? xx

My surgeon's assistant and I had a long talk about it and she was like, unfortunately it's not uncommon for some people to take longer to be able to eat certain foods and some may never be able to. And truthfully, I'm actually kinda grateful that I can't just go and eat whatever I want so there is less risk of me falling into the trap of bad eating habits again further down the road. I'm losing weight consistently, and my last bloodwork was fantastic, so, so long as I'm mindful of the nutrients I'm getting- I'm ok with not being able to eat other foods.

But the nausea does suck when I -try- to eat something. At least it doesn't hurt when something DOES have to come up. (just the lead up to it)

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
