Hard time keeping vitamin c + iron chewable’s down

Recommended Posts

Hi! I’m a little over a month post op and I’m having a hard time keeping the Vitamin C + Iron chewable’s down. I got them from Bariatric Advantage & every time I take them I feel nauseated immediately. I then feel like I may have to throw up for a long time after. My surgeon had said to take these two hours separately from the multi Vitamin chewable and I always do. I know these are crucial to the recovery process so any tips on how to take them would be very appreciated!

Iron can be hard on some people's stomachs. Carbonyl iron and heme iron (heme iron is derived from animals) are usually easier on people's stomachs. There are a couple of other versions that are easy on the stomach, too, but I can't remember what they are. Does anyone else remember?

Iron & Vitamin C are known to cause nausea (plus the iron can add to any Constipation woes). Ensure you take them after you eat. Also check to ensure you’re not doubling up on how much iron you’re taking if you take a multi Vitamin & an iron tablet. Maybe look to a different brand or formulation like a tablet not a chewable.

I was thankful I didn’t need to take iron on top of the multi vitamin I had to take. (My 2 monthly blood tests while I was losing showed my iron levels & stores were always very good.) The multi alone made me nauseous. Was so glad when my surgeon said I didn’t need to take them any more when I was two months into maintenance (8 months post surgery).

Iron bisglycinate is also supposed to be easier on the stomach and not cause Constipation. Taking iron on a full stomach can also help.

I suffered through the chewables until 6 weeks out when my doctor allowed me to switch to capsules. Such a happy day, that day! Celebrate has been the brand for me.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
