Liquid post-op diet question

Recommended Posts

My surgery is Tuesday! My question is about Protein Drinks following surgery. I know in the beginning with liquids they suggest 3-4oz an hour. If I'm having a Premier Protein for a meal, am I only supposed to do 3-4oz of it, or can I have the whole drink? I keep forgetting to ask this at appointments and I know I can next week, but I figured I'd ask here also.

After surgery its going to be very hard to get the full amount of Protein and Water in. So dont stress if you dont even get half in right after surgery. It took me several weeks before i could get enough protein in and water was a struggle for a while. Buy little 1 ounce cups on Amazon and pour an ounce and work on each individual ounce. The surgeon should give you a paper to let you know how much protein and water to get in daily. Just do your best. one Premier Protein shake typically has like 30 grams of protein. Thats about half of what you need daily. you wanna shoot for about 50-60 grams of protein daily and 48-64oz of fluids daily like water. (your Protein Shakes count as fluid)

I’d just sip it until I was finished. I also would dilute them (double the Water added) as they were so disgusting so would take me ages to drink it. Counts as Fluid so all good.

As long as you don’t exceed three ‘meals’ of shakes or broth, etc. a day you’ll be okay.

Congrats on your surgery.

I was always able to drink more than they said I would be able to. I was concerned about it, but the PA at my clinic said my stomach would let me know if I was overdoing it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
