Transition from liquid to puréed

Recommended Posts

I had the sleeve 12/21/22. I am about a week and a half into starting puréed foods and I am struggling big time. What I’ve tried, hurts, and I can’t think of what foods to try puréed. Anyone out there have suggestions of mush/puréed that worked for them? Right now I am doing three smoothies a day, yogurt, Jello, and pudding in between and I’m just not feeling satiated.

I had ricotta bake a bunch. It's ricotta cheese and some marinara/spaghetti/or pizza sauce baked in the oven for a few minutes just to get it warm. I was also allowed to eat egg salad and chicken salad. I just put it in the blender with a tablespoon of low fat mayo and mustard and other seasonings. It hurt to eat too many bites of any of those for me though.

if it's hurting, you might want to go back to liquids for a few days and then try again. Sometimes your stomach isn't quite ready to move on to the next stage. It's always fine to go back a stage if need be.

You could try baby food. I was told it was an option and it’s a lot cheaper than buying a blender or a food processor that I’ll never use. That’s what I’m gonna do, plus I can use the glass jars for crafts after.

You might want to take an extra few days of liquids to give yourself some extra healing time. Everyone heals at a different pace.

If it continues too long, contact your surgeon.

I made egg salad and chicken salad and pureed them both. I also had ground turkey taco meat pureed. I think for the most part that was about it because the texture of most stuff pureed is gross to me.

Really though, you can puree anything. You may need to add some liquid to thin it out a bit though. If what you are eating is dry, that may be causing some of your pain.

I really enjoyed refried Beans with taco bell sauce although some people aren't allowed spicy things at 1st. I didn't consider the mild sauce to be spicy and it didn't hurt to eat for me but just a thought. I also ate prune baby food. I had a lot of Constipation issues after surgery so it was nice to get the Fiber and it was actually more yummy and sweet then I thought it would be. Good luck and take care!

Egg salad, refried Beans, and cottage cheese were the things I ate the most often.

Yeah I tried to add hot sauce to my diet again, worst idea ever.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
