Byetta and Lapband

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had experience using Byetta with a lap band? While lap band is helping me to eat less, the Byetta controlled my blood sugars and helped me to reduce snacking and browsing. I am thinking of restarting the Byetta that I was taken off before the surgery. Any help or advice would be appreciated

Ron

I am glad to see this post! I would like to continue Byetta after surgery as well. It cuts out those hounding "EAT EAT" voices like nothing else. And yes, I am a veteran low carber. ;)

Hi Donna,

Here is a link regarding Byetta. You are doing a wonderful job with your weight loss BTW! clap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gif

Ron and Amaara, I would run this past your doctors and see what they think. However once you get your bands and are properly adjusted, you might find that you have no need for Byetta anymore.

Good luck with your upcoming surgeries. I am really really happy with my band and am so glad that I had this surgery.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

I was on 5 meds for diabetes before surgery including Byetta. I had to stop Byetta as it is a time-release medication that is a no-no post op. My diabetes doctor, in addition to my surgeon, discussed meds pre and post op.

I also had to stop metformin 2 days pre op as it interferes with the anesthesia during surgery....since surgery have stopped 2 additional meds for diabetes and cut back on the metformin and reduced Lantus injections from 35 units to 8.

My diabetes doctor had 12 other patients have this surgery and ALL are off meds for diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, etc.

As you lose weight you blood sugar levels will normalize...I hope to be off all meds in 6 months.....

Just think of the $$$ you save to buy new skinny clothes!

Good Luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
