Gas & Bloating 5yrs post op

Recommended Posts

I’ve developed a lot of gas and excessive burping the last 2 months. I had my sleeve 5yrs ago. I haven’t changed any of my habits.

I get excruciating gas pains sometimes and become constipated. When I’m finally able to go it’s diarrhea. Then the pain goes away. I haven’t had a normal bm in 2 months.

It’s just such a long time after surgery I wouldn’t think don’t know if it’s related or should I go to doctor and look for any underlying reasons.

Thank you for your thoughts fellow sleever’s.

I would start with your PCP.

Like you said, it is a bit of time since surgery.

I agree, see your doctor. It seems too long to be related to your surgery. You may have developed IBS.

do you have a gallbladder still? sounds like it could be that … totally worth a trip to a doctor to be sure..

if it is there are meds to help (tho doctors want to cut it out too quickly and don’t often want to even try other methods ) … also i know people who manage gallbladder issues by cleaning out their gastrointestinal tract with colonoscopy prep and it sets their gallbladder right without surgery or drugs…

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
