Sugar intake question

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone :) one of my favorite things to drink pre opt was body armor but of course I am not able to drink it currently do to the sugar being too high and don’t want to risk dumping syndrome. Is there anyone that’s months of weeks post op that can now do more than just 6 grams of sugar? Is that something that will stick with me lifelong? Or might I be able to have a body armor every once and again in the future? Any help I would appreciate 💜

I'm several years out, but I can handle sugar just fine (unfortunately). Most restrictions are temporary - at some point, you'll be able to eat most (if not all) things, just in smaller portion sizes.

P.S. about 30% of bypassers dump. Sleevers can also dump, but it's not nearly as common. But even dumpers can handle at least *some* sugar.

Just know that letting sugar back into your life is a slippery slope. Wish I never would have done it.

I agree but I had a revision to Gastric Bypass because of horrible complications from a VBG in 2004.

I was 228. I am now 170. Moderation

Thank you all very much for the information, I definitely view it differently now. It wasn’t that I am eager to eat sugar but that I sit and think if I would ever be able to enjoy some of my favorite things that may have a little more than recommended to a bariatric patient but I will give this some thought. I really wanna succeed at changing my life around 😫

Something to consider is that the daily recommended allowance of added sugar each day for a woman is 25g (6 level teaspoons or 0.8oz). Body Armour contains 19g of added sugar per single serve (12oz).

You’ll likely become an avid reader of nutrition panels on all foods & drinks you buy. It can be quite shocking to discover how much added sugar is in foods you ate & drank without thought in the past.

Personally I keep my added sugar to less than 10g. Get plenty of the glucose my body needs from fruit, dairy, vegetables, etc. (I avoid a lot of artificial sweeteners too as they continue to feed your desire for sweet. Plus lots of concerns regarding their potential for health issues.)

I'm only 3 months out but I'm very way of calories, carbs, and sugar. Like you said I want this life change to be successful. I'm 75 pounds down with 83 pounds to go. I want to be able to be an active part in the rest of my life. If you can shake the sugary drink I don't know that I would introduce it back in. One of the reasons I'm not letting artificially sweetened tea back in my life. I don't NEED the caffeine anymore- I'm good with Crystal Lite Water going to stick with that. It's one less thing to be addicted to.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
