September surgery buddies

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! My name is Samantha and I am new to the site. My sleeve surgery is scheduled for September 12,2022! I am excited and nervous at the same time! My support system is kind of lacking due to no significant other and one child being away at college. The only one left with me is my wild child and there is no telling how much help she will be! I say that with the most love possible. She is amazing but tends to act before thinking🤣 So who wants to saddle up together and help support each other through this???

Hi Samantha,

I have scheduled my surgery date for September 19, 2022 with Dr, Shillingford. I am nervous but glad its scheduled and will be done. What I worry about most is the pain afterwards and the inability to eat. I hate throwing up and fear that most. Please let me know how your surgery goes and I will for sure update you on my as well. We got this!!

Greetings,

Kim from central Georgia - I am going to have VSG surgery late September or early October per my surgeon yesterday.

I understand what you are saying about lack of support! Struggling a built with the reality of my support network right now. Adding stress! It’s tough to know you will be vulnerable and be unsure of who to turn to.

Hello, I'm a Sept. 12 Sleever :)

The first time I mentioned bariatric surgery everyone nay sayed me... This time I didn't tell anyone but my husband, I told the others about a week prior and they were all actually very supportive this time. I think the adverse effects frightened them the first time, but as I spoke casually with them about the minute severe outcomes and the highly positive ones, I believe it help settle their nerves... Plus, I was absolutely ready this time and nothing was going to stop me, I needed it for my health before all else!!!

I have joined multiple sites for bariatric patients on FB for a wide range of support systems.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
