I'm still on purees, but starting next week, here's some of the stuff on my menu for soft food stage:

  • Butternut Squash Bisque w/ Meatballs
  • Meatloaf, Green Beans, Sautéed Squash
  • Slow-Cooker Buffalo chicken Meatballs
  • Broccoli cheese Soup (add unflavored Protein powder)
  • Taco bowl
  • Moroccan Shakshuka With Lentils
  • Mapo tofu

Here are some more ideas for you:

  • Vegetarian (or not!) chili
  • Cabbage Rolls with potatoes
  • Kofta Curry
  • Muttar Paneer
  • Stuffed Poblano Peppers
  • Kafta Kabob
  • Huevos Rancheros (skip the tortilla)
  • Vegan Sweet Potato & Black Bean "meatballs" with shiitake mushrooms
  • Menemen
  • Dalia Khichdi
  • Masoor Dal
  • Dal Makhani
  • Baba Ghanouj with Cauliflower or Zucchini Fritters (add Protein powder)
  • Blackened Salmon with Smashed Potatoes
  • Creamy Garlic Butter Tuscan Salmon over Zoodles
  • Mahi Mahi w/ Aji Amarillo, sauteed zucchini
  • Thai Red Curry with Mahi Mahi
  • Tilapia w/Pesto, Roasted Root Veggies
  • Vegetable Beef Soup (use ground beef & no corn)
  • Beef & Bean Sloppy Joes (skip the bun), roasted carrots
  • Swedish Meatballs & potatoes
  • Ground Beef Stir Fry with broccoli & mushrooms
  • Kibbeh Harira
  • Crustless Quiche

Basically anything that uses ground meats is probably safe. Get creative with veggies to either cook with or along with the meat. Some things that may be light on protein may need some unflavored Protein Powder mixed in.

Those are some amazing ideas! Some I haven't even heard of so I'm looking forward to looking them up. I am such a boring basic cook and just get stuck in a rut, so these ideas will help a ton! Thank you so much!

I did get some shrimp to make shrimp cocktail with sugar free cocktail sauce and I bought button mushrooms I can add to everything lol but also going to try adding low fat cheese and broil them to make stuffed mushrooms. Those were my ideas for the week lol.

Glad they're helpful. I have tons for shrimp ideas as well, but didn't add any here. On my plan, they're not on the soft foods list.

I'm just curious anyone els sad they can't eat certain things? I'm not sad about the things most people ask me about, I was prepared and not eating things like burgers, anything deep fried ect.... right now I'm sad about not being able to eat a salad, we have this pizza place in town with an amazing salad bar, my family and I would usually eat there 2-3x a month, and I always got the salad bar, I didn't realize how much I'd miss that right now .... everyone went today, and I went because I thought it would be fine, I talked to the manager and since they don't have anything I can eat right now (still on pureed tell monday) they said I could bring in my own dish. Especially when they saw how small the container was so I wouldn't feel like I was missing out on not eating with everyone, so I made a deviled egg salad.... I was so sad seeing the salad bar and knowing it will be a while before I can have any raw veggies [emoji30].... I might set the next one out ....

I personally would not visit a restaurant until I'm ok to eat. Why put myself through that torture. I will be entering puree stage on Thursday. We knew what we were getting into when we decided to have this surgery. Do I crave sure, but I know I'm not gonna be on puree for ever.

True, and I should have stayed home, I just missed 2 family get together already and missed everyone, so i thought I'd be ok since I didn't eat the pizza and things from there before.... and honestly didn't think I would miss salad that much, but I think it's more the being able to eat anything regular food wise... because had I been on regular foods and raw vegetables and everything I could have gotten something healthy and been good, but yeah I'm pretty sure it's more the missing just regular food in general, although they do have an awesome salad bar lol

I don't think anything should ever be off limits, but I do think we have to do what our stomach can handle. I am a month out and I actually took a small taste of my son's birthday cake this weekend. I was fine and I didn't beat myself up. I normally do very low carb/no sugar. I think we will be able to eat foods, just much smaller amounts.

That's awesome, thats how I think to
... everything in moderation, I was off burgers and greasy foods as well as little to no salt because 1 trying to loose weight before surgery, and 2 my mom has a bad stomach, as well as healthy conditions and can't eat alot of stuff and we usually eat together several times a week.... I think my biggest thing was it was real food, that I enjoyed (and was still pretty healthy) but I haven't had a bite of real food in 5 weeks between pre op diet and post op diet I am hoping I get a salad soon, I need to look up how long after surgery they say before I should be able to eat raw vegetables again...

My dad has suggested since it's something I'm craving now. To Pick a goal, weather it be a scale number, a time frame, a outfit to fit into.... and make that as my reward lol but I'm trying to make it to where food is no longer a reward, and more of just fuel

I resolved my self that I already ate my fair share of burgers ,fries and fried foods . I'm do not want to eat that anymore at any time. I see people eating that and it discusts me. I see them poising themselves . I keep it to myself and am not going to become food police or anything like that, but I does help me no to crave it. We all have our own way of figuring things out. For now it help me say the corse.

The cravings for me got better as I was able to eat better food. When I got on soft food I was able to eat more things that made me feel normal again and then I was less focused on food itself which helped the cravings. My family goes out to Breakfast every other friday and I had skipped those for over a month because I didn't want to be sad. Hope things get better for you soon since you get to start soft food now.

Not saying you can never eat out, but I wanted to mention that the research is pretty clear that people that eat out frequently are more likely to be overweight or obese.

Salads can also be a real hidden source of calories. We think of salads as healthy, but when you add in all the high calorie toppings and dressing, salads can actually be one of the most caloric things on a restaurant menu.

Just food for thought.

I have avoided restaurants bc it’s Just easier to stay focused at home. I do find that without eating my feelings, I’m having to learn to handle stress and other emotions without food. That makes me feel things in a deeper way so there have been a lot of emotions - not sure if that helps but good luck, you got this!

Got my sleeve done on 9/27. Finally into purée foods for my program. Doing good. Still feeling tired but getting in my walking. Have noticed some tooth sensitivity so I’ve upped how often I brush and floss and mouthwash.

Definitely not going to purée meat so it’s yogurt and scrambled eggs for me! 😂

Word of warning: A LOT of people have issues with scrambled eggs post-op. So much so that my plan says to avoid them until at least 4-6 weeks out. If you're like me, I was always told that scrambled eggs were a good choice when we had an upset stomach, but new tummy, new rules, I guess?

At the pureed stage, I was allowed poached eggs, and they were fine for me. Also egg salad was fine, as long as I mashed it up well first.

I agree that pureed meats were generally not appetizing, but mashed-up (not pureed) tuna salad was allowed on my plan and it was pretty good. Pre-surgery, I already mashed up my tuna salad some, so I didn't really notice much of a difference. chicken however was unpleasant. So much so that I won't be eating chicken of any kind for a while!

Another good choice is refried Beans or pureed bean Soup. You can add unflavored Protein powder to those and really up the protein if desired.

I had my four-week visit today and I am down 30 lbs. I am just so astonished. It took me a year to lose the first 30. This is not easy but so glad I did it. I went to IHOP with my littlest guy tonight and husband and had about tbsp of an egg white omelet. I am doing super well with the foods. My only slight issue is I am still tired all the time. I am vitamining up like crazy (new word?). I have not started exercising yet but I got permission to start to do body groove tomorrow. Here is hoping the next 30 comes easily. Hoping for all of your success.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
