Normal stall? Advice needed please

Recommended Posts

Hi, can I get a little guidance please? I had a gastric bypass 6 months ago. I've lost 4 stone so far. I've recently got back from a holiday (where I lost 6lbs) but since I got back its all gone a bit odd (see pic of weekly weigh in).
I don't know if this is all normal or if I'm doing something wrong? Am I panicking over nothing?
I've got some epic toilet issues (chronic diarrhoea) that Ive got a referral to gastroenterology for so there is that factor. I am also not overly concerned about Protein goals, as directed by my nutritionist as my stomach is struggling with everything at the mo. I have low potassium and am due to start vit B12 injections tomorrow.
The first weight on the pic is on return from holiday, I fully expected a small gain when I returned as I went back to my normal food and it wasn't as hot.
I don't know if I should:
A) eat less (I have 3 meals a day, rarely snacks)
B) exercise more
C) do both of the above
D) stop panicking and wait for my body to catch itself up?
Hopefully someone can ease my worries. I'm UK based. Thank you in advance 😊

Personally I would really start to concentrate on specifically what you are taking into your body to make sure you are not over eating. Measure and track your intake to the recommended calorie levels. I would also increase exercise. Unless you simply cannot get in Protein, I would try to get more of that. Your body could be craving protein and retaining weight because of that. That of course is a nutritionist/Doctor question.

You may be dehydrated due to the poops, and feeling what you take to be hunger pains. Try drinking more--but I am not a doc. Push up that appt. with the gastro doc...

So I am guessing your main concern is the slowing down of your weight loss? At this point I am going to say its very normal for weight loss to slow down at the 6 month mark ( depending on your start weight of course) so dont worry about that. You do however need to sort your nutrition and gastric problem out. Sort that out then once you are all good there then concentrate on loosing more weight if you need too.

Your rate of loss always slows as you get closer to your goal weight. You can always depend on that. The heady high rates of loss you experience at the beginning don’t last. You can also stall any number of times along the way.

The small weight gain you are seeing at the moment could be related to your health issues or it could be your natural weight fluctuation becoming more noticeable as you get closer to your goal. It could also be your body resettling after your holiday loss & getting you back to where you would have been without the holiday. I’d go for option D - stop panicking & let your body catch up & I’d also add wait for your health to improve.

Doesn’t hurt to do a check of your food choices, portion sizes, calories, Protein & Fluid intake, etc. Though you may be currently struggling with food, there may be something you are missing or could tweak to keep you closer to your plan.

All the best

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
