Anyone have an Abcess drain?

Recommended Posts

Good morning everyone,

Did anyone have an abcess drain and sleep on there tummy? Just curious it's been a week with this thing and I'm tired of laying on my back but afraid to risk anything as I've been paranoid due to the in and out of the hospital for the past month

Update :

last week of Feb - surgery

First week of Mar - spasum

2nd week - found out i had a hematoma that would go away on its own ( admitted )

3rd week - it turned to an abcess so they inserted a abdominal drain ( admitted )

4th week - went to the clinic to remove it but the discharge was yellow and my wbc was high so back to being admitted we went

God willing April is better.

Anyone with experience please if possible share the details i would greatly appreciate it 😊

What surgery did you get? if you can update your sidebar with all your information. It helps when answering questions. you can do this in your profile section and click on surgery and you can add all the information. Good luck to you on that. I have surgery in 2 weeks.

Do you have a recliner? I had to sleep in my recliner for a couple of nights due to my drain, and it was tough. I'm a side sleeper, and once I could spend the night in my own bed on my side, life got a whole lot sweeter. Wishing you quicker healing and lots of luck.

Do you have a standard drain or a wound vac? I would sleep on my side with the wound vac as long as the connection wasn’t squished on the bed (if that makes any sense lol)

I had mine for fourteen days, but of course it felt like a whole lot longer.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
