Can’t stop thinking about eating!

Recommended Posts

So I am one week prior to surgery for the bypass. I’m doing my liquid diet and I’m sticking to it 100%, but I cannot stop thinking about eating! Every single thought that runs through my mind is eating, eating, eating! How do I stop this?

The liquid diet will test your will power like never before. You've got to push it off for now so you can reach your goals. Keeping busy helps. Find things that work to keep you preoupied. Call a friend, play with pets or maybe audio books. When you find a few that work, write them down. This won't be last time you'll be tempted to eat. It's tough but you can do it!

You don't, basically. The reason you're having surgery is the body fights with everything is has to keep the pounds on - until you get surgery.

I'm not going to tell you exactly what you can do, but I will tell you it gets easier if you acknowledge that yes, this isn't normal to just be drinking things, but it's in a strange way the ultimate gift you're giving yourself.

And this, my friend, is the last time you'll go hungry. Something we have had to do way, way too much on our 400 different diets that ultimately had to fail (see above, body).

Can you reward yourself in other ways? Again, know this will pass very, very soon. And for once, going hungry isn't an act of self-punishment, it's an act of self-love. For the last time.

You just have to get through a few more days of this and most likely you won’t feel hunger for quite some time (a small percentage do). You just have to do whatever it takes to distract yourself and keep thinking of the end goal. You can do this.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
