Silly question...

Recommended Posts

Okay, this might be a silly question, but do can you "feel" the band after the surgery? Is there any sensation or uncomfortable feeling that you know it is there, or does it feel the same as before the surgery?

Other than just getting over the soreness of surgery, I can't feel my band. I can feel my little, flat port if I rub my tummy. It's my "security button".;)

I don't feel a sensation in regards to my band... Like Miss Marie... I feel my port. First I thought it was neat that I could feel my my port... then it freaked me out a bit... now... it seems like it's always been there.

After they did and upper GI I was amazed at the band snuggly around my stomach and that I had no sensation of it being there. ;)

I remember being very curious about the exact same thing. And the answer, like everyone says, is NO, you are not aware of the presence of your band the vast majority of the time. My band only makes itself known by its effects, and if I'm not eating, I don't know it's there.

Well, I guess I am different! I cannot feel my port, but I can feel something (not sure if it is the band or the tube) high up on my tummy. It's very hard and about 2 1/2 inches horizontal. I also have a sensation that is somewhere between tender and sore, hard to explain, but it's enough to remind me often that I have a band.

my verdict is the same, I can feel the port, but not the band. If I laugh or sit up, I can feel the port more (as I tighten those ABS). but it doesn't hurt.

Bandit... My port site tend to get irritated once in awhile and so... occaisionally it will give me a spasm or two during a spirited romp in the hay... most of the time it just covers it's eyes until it's all over. ;)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
