Okay, I talked to my nutritionist and I'm still confused all I want to know is how much sugar can I have before and after the gastric sleeve because she gave me a list of Snacks and drinks like for example she put 2 1/3 of graham crackers but it has 8g of sugar and 8g included so 16g of sugar that's a lot then, she told me about the equate Protein Drinks but, that has 16g of sugar and 12g included, my question is how much sugar can I have because all those I listed are a lot of sugar and I DO NOT want to have any issues

Generally the average daily recommended amount of sugar an adult woman should consume each day is 24g but we should be consuming a less while losing. Check with your nutritionalist as to what she requires as plans are different. I wasn’t given a specific maximum amount not to exceed.

Some Protein Shakes have a lot of sugar so you’ll have to shop around to find the ones you like with the lowest sugar content. I only had to have shakes for the first two weeks post surgery. I wasn’t overly worried about sugar (or fat or carbs) those first two weeks but then I wasn’t eating much anyway -<300 calories. I only had one a day & a serve of soup/broth so not a big issue really. Once I stared purées I was very vigilant. But again check with your nutritionalist about this.

While losing I only ate meat, dairy, vegetables & fruit so the only sugar I had was in yoghurt & the naturally occurring sugar in milk & fruit. I still keep my sugar low & continue to avoid things with added sugar, articulate sweeteners or sugar alternatives as much as I can. But that’s my choice now.

You’ll discover that everyday you’ll decide what you’ll eat based upon the food’s nutrient value. Checking the sugar, fats, carbs, Protein content & keeping a running total of how much you’re eating as the day progresses becomes a daily part of your life & will influence your food choices throughout the day. Reach your maximum sugar in the morning then avoid it for the rest of the day.

Oh, and while dumping is uncommon with gastric sleeve it can happen & sugar is often the cause. So tread carefully.

All the best.

My program allows a Protein Shake to have no more than 6 g of sugar and I am to drink them 4 times per day pre op for 2 weeks. Post op I am to have diluted fruit juice/gatorade (50/50 split with water) for the first week and then the shakes again for one week (4 per day). So from my calculations it would seem that they do not want me to have more than 24 g pre op and post op (minus the first week post op). Once I get to the soft food stage (weeks 3 and 4 post op) it seems the 24 ish grams per day is still in effect as they only want me to have 2 soft food meals and 2 shakes per day. Soft food is about a 1/4 cup of either minced Protein or pureed carbohydrates like mashed banana. I looked and 1/4 mashed banana is 7 g of sugar. I used banana as it seems to be higher in sugar than berries or apples. I do not yet have direction for 4 weeks plus from surgery. Hopefully this was helpful.

Yeah, limit sugar as much as you can. But if you like sweet treats, I found a good one. If you stick to the recommended serving of 15 pieces (bears), it's a good option. 5 g Protein. 120 calories. 7 g sugar.

PS: I forgot to mention that I also have acanthosis nigricans which is the very unfortunate side of PCOS, anyways I was just wondering if anyone who had the bypass and has this skin condition how does your skin look now?

did you guys have to have some type of laser, or any other treatments afterwords so it can fade?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
