4 Days Out -PLEASE TELL ME IT GETS BETTER!

Recommended Posts

I had RNY on 04 Aug, so I’m 4 days post-op and this morning was my worst morning yet. Super nauseated, can’t drink my Water b/c it hurts (and yes I’ve tried it at all different temperature) and my Protein Shakes taste disgusting to me. I’m so worried I’m going to get dehydrated…any tips/tricks/advice? What is a realistic amount of water to be able to tolerate at this point? I’m worried I’m failing! 😢

I had surgery the same day as you, and from the beginning, I could drink water and have had no nausea from the time I got out of surgery to today. Did your doctor give you Ondansetron? Little white pill that dissolves on your tongue. I lived on ice chips at the hospital, and popsicles. At this point, my doctor said 64 oz a day, sipped 1-2 oz every 15 min.

IT GETS BETTER!!!

Hang in there.

My biggest challenge for the first month or two was getting enough Water and enough Protein in. I was struggling with that, big time. But you know what? It was Ok. I was Ok. You'll be Ok. You'll figure out what works and you'll modify your procedures as you go. A sip every five minutes may be all you can manage. So do that. It adds up and it's just fine to go slowly. It's better, in fact.

I got so bored / frustrated by that, but it's Ok. You'll be Ok. This is the hardest part. Aside from the therapy... ;-)

If you're feeling weak or worn out, some Gatorade for electrolytes works wonders. chicken broth or Bone Broth were important for me during the liquid stage, too. I just craved something savory, gosh darn it!

Take it little by little. Keep your eyes on the prize (improved health and life). Before you know it, your bigger challenge will be buying clothes that fit and then they don't fit a month later. Let me tell you, a few trips to Goodwill or other second-hand shops worked out great for me. I even kept a few of those things around longer-term.

Good luck on your path. IT DOES GET BETTER!!!

Hope you’re starting to feel better now! Whilst I was still in hospital they made me thin Protein rich Soup - in this case Tomato and chorizo - no bits, of course - and that was SO tasty. I too could not tolerate thick shakes and I actually became a bit lactose intolerant after the surgery, which is not unheard of. It’s a long time ago for me and I can tell you that it DOES get better - you’ll get there, even though you fear you won’t. After I got home I used to have tiny bits of Protein Bars and dissolve them in my mouth until there was nothing left but taste and saliva, and then swallow… I really worked at getting protein in. You are a few weeks in to you new world now, and I hope things are better. My step-daughter had surgery YESTERDAY and she has all this to come! X

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
