I had my WLS/Rou-y on May 15, 2018, and I now have excess skin near my stomach, thighs, hips, and arms. I'm supposed to be losing more weight toward my surgery to get rid of the excess skin on my stomach because I keep getting rashes, infections, and fungus in the area to the point I have open sores so Medicaid is deeming it medically necessary and deciding to cover it. I'm having a hard time because I hit a weight plateau during the pandemic and gained 13 pounds (I was supposed to lose at least 30) and I'm nowhere near my goal. I don't know what to do with myself and I'm highly disappointed. I do need someone to vent to right now. :(

You've lost so much weight!!! That's something to be super proud of, definitely take a minute to pat yourself on the back and Celebrate your accomplishment.

I'm sorry you're going through this. 115 is a really low goal. Most bariatric patients don't get to such a low BMI. Maybe work on losing the 30 lbs you need to for skin surgery and set your final goal a little higher so you don't feel so disheartened?

As for losing more weight right now, don't do anything drastic; just focus on the basics, like eating good food; veggies and lean Protein. Try using an app like MyFitnessPal or Baritastic to track your calories. Don't beat yourself up for gaining weight during the pandemic - it happened to a LOT of people!!

Wishing you the best!

Thank you, maybe I should be happy about the weight I've lost not gained. I think sometimes we beat ourselves up for nothing. Maybe 115 is too low for me I was only going by what my doctor said since I have a smaller frame and back and knee problems that too much weight on me makes things worse. She said that even 130 is technically too big for me but I'll just put like 140 -150 range as my lowest to get down to if I do because it doesn't seem that realistic and a unobtainable goal. I just want to work right now to get under 200 because the most weight I could be at surgery is 180 to be safe.

You should be proud of your progress. Stress like last year's lockdown can cause many to resort to stress eating.

Go back to basics, throw out all temptations, go to therapy if you can. Journaling your stress can sometimes help find what triggers you.

Once you get back to basics, cravings will go away again. Then look into intermittent fasting. Look for Dr. Jason Fung's books or youtube videos.

Getting down to 115 would give you a BMI of 20.4. I'm 2 inches shorter than you and I could probably get down to 115 but I'm pretty sure I couldn't maintain it. Your new goal of 130 would give you a BMI of 23.0. Still nicely within the healthy range. :1313_thumbsup_tone4:

115 is doable of you really want to get there (i’m 5’2” and got there a couple months into maintenance). You may not want even want too when you get closer…who knows.

For ease on the mind, it may be beneficial to set incremental goals so you can still Celebrate progress without getting down on yourself? Or even non-weight goals, like fitting into a pair of pants, or running a specific distance, or getting off a certain med, etc.

Also, keep in mind that your excess skin is also adding to the number on the scale. Your have a relatively high starting weight (and low-ish height) and you will likely have a fair bit of extra skin to account for.

But dude, congrats on losing 135 lbs, that’s amazing!

I kid you not there is this pair of pants that is like a size 16 in my closet. I feel so determined to fit in them! Like even if I'm able to fit into those that would make me happy. That's why I kept them even though they still have a store tag on them.

You can do it Tierra, look how far you have come already!!

I had a pair of pants that I was working towards and now they are too big lol!! So I got myself a dress that I really love but is way too tight and am now working towards fitting into that.
I think it’s great to have goals other than weight goals to work towards. The other thing I find motivating is to measure myself each month and Celebrate the inches lost.

I have an update, those size 16 pants in my closet are now too big for me but now I have no idea what pant size I am anymore. I wear a size 12 shirts but my pants are under a size 16 now but 14 is still a little tight so maybe I'm a 15? Dunno...

Did you get the skin removal surgery? Congrats on the size 16 being too big!

I haven't gotten the excess skin surgery yet. I still have stage 3 lipedema on top of the excess skin. The excess skin alone weighs about 50 - 60 pounds and then the lipedema is another 60 pounds. My whole body looks like a deflated balloon, just lots of skin hanging. I am trying to do a gofundme because I don't really have enough money, I'm on medicaid/Medicare and lipedema surgeries aren't really covered under most insurances so I might have to come up with all the money myself along with money for a place to heal at because I cannot heal at my current place because I live at the top floor with no elevator and the pain in my legs/being able to walk is becoming very hard if at all. I stay mostly bedridden and at home because the excess skin and swelling is so bad it's hard to do anything. I started coming up with the money but it's just not enough. Between finding a place to heal at, 3 multiple surgeries I'll need to heal at and all the medical bills and debt I've already gotten into to be able to get clearances for all this it's a long draw out process. It sucks when you don't know many people. I have family but they aren't very supportive of me nor do they want to help me with my cause so I'm looking for other people to help me instead if possible just trying to network a bit more but it hasn't really been working at this point. The link to my GoFundMe is at the bottom. It might be a little bit more because GoFundMe takes a share of the profits raised. I get less than the goal because of that. My real name is in the GoFundMe, btw. The name I picked for my bariatricpal account IS my real name but the letters shifted around or added to.

My GoFundMe got deleted because someone reported me saying it was a fake GoFundMe when it wasn't so now I've been trying to find another website where random strangers that aren't my family can donate instead. I am just going to put an alias so none of my family can try to jeprodize my progress and report me for no reason because they are a hater.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
