Hi. Kyle here. I'm 4 to 6 weeks out from my roux en y surgery. I'm excited. Scared. Apprehensive. Determined and driven...lol

I'm in illinois but am willing and wanting to offer you my ear. Advice and mainly my time to listen.

Hi!

I'm glad to have found this thread. I am in the planning stage and definitely need some advice if any is available. I'm in the BX. Anyone have any tips on what to ask my doctor or if I should just go straight to the surgeon?

I went to my primary first and she has a list of surgeons that she worked with before or other patients used before. That is where I got my recommendations of surgeons. However, if you know some surgeons already you could go straight to them since every hospital/program/insurance is a bit different

Bxnaija: I messaged you. Go to your PCP AND set up consultations with surgeons ASAP

Update: I will no longer get the gastric bypass surgery. I am going to get the duodenal switch surgery. YouTube it if you haven’t heard of it. It’s a great tool to have especially someone with over 100lbs to lose like myself. 🥰😍

Hi. I’m in Brooklyn/Queens border. Having my sleeve surgery on Nov 9 in Bellevue Hospital by Dr. Patricia C. Chui. I started my 2 week preop liquid and 2 cups of veggie diet (Bellevue has the only preop I’ve seen with this allowance) today. I cut out caffeine a month ago, carbonated diet soda and seltzer Water 2 months ago, and sugar 3 months ago. I’ve lost 10lbs since my first consultation 3 months ago by weening myself off like this.

Bellevue has been amazing through the 3 month process. I started by taking an online seminar and emailing them a questionnaire. They called me back a day or two later to schedule the in person consultation. Did the consultation with my surgeon reviewing why I’m choosing this option and the whole process together. I then did my blood work and was told to wait for some paperwork and appointment dates. The coordinator then gave me a folder that included surgery info, the shopping list and meals plans for all stages, a light exercise guide, and a list of all the appointment dates. The nutritionist, psychological exam, preadmission nurse questions, and nurse after care review we’re done via telephone webcam. I had to go in person for an esophogram exam and a COVID nasal swab 5 days prior to surgery.

Best of luck to you! I’d love to find a NYC based group for in person support events in the future.

🖤

Ricki

I hit my stall ALREADY 🤷🏽‍♀️ been at 300 for almost a week. I’m not worried about it though, because I know that my body is healing. I’m not in a rush, I loss 30 pounds since surgery which was 3 weeks ago. I’m just going with the flow and staying positive. 😁

It's very common. Give your body a chance to "catch up" with its new reality and the weight loss will start again. Hang in there, I know it can be frustrating!

First Orangetheory class back after surgery! #347 for me. Determined to take things easy- especially those ab exercises. Looking forward to hitting #350 this week.

I loss 19 pounds my first 7 days post op 🙌🏽 (Water weight or real weight.. weight is weight to me.. I’ll take it lol) I make sure I keep my water with me 24.7 and I walk every chance I get. I cook dinner for my kids with no problems. I have zero cravings!  By next week I should be in the 200’s. Haven’t been there since high school 🥲

I had my surgery 11/17 and hit 299 this morning! :) Rooting for you!

Well, starting day 2 after surgery. Felling hunger pains again this morning and nausea, no vomiting. I think the hunger pains are coming from my stomach and not my pouch. Think I will call their hotline and speak with them about it. It is not terribly bad but it is uncomfortable. I do not regret getting the surgery though. I expected some discomfort right after, I just didn't expect the hunger pains.
