Has anyone with BCBS of TN been able to get a revision surgery?? I had a gastric sleeve in 2013 and lost 120lbs. Well 2 kids and pandemic later I’ve gained about 80lbs back. Any information will be helpful and appreciated.

I don't know anything about BCBS of TN, but it's kind of a crap shoot when it comes to revisions. Some will only cover them if there's some medical issue with surgery #1 - and some don't cover revisions at all (like my friend who's having awful problems with her 10-year-old lap band - her insurance company won't pay for revision, in spite of the fact she's been hospitalized with issues and her doctors have said she needs to have a revision). Hopefully yours will cover it, though!

I just googled "BCBS of TN bariatric surgery" and found this. This is pretty typical - most companies require some kind of medical complication from the first surgery before they'll cover the second one. But I'd check with them regardless.

Procedures That MIGHT BE Covered

The following procedures MIGHT BE covered by Blue Cross Blue Shield Tennessee:

  • Revision Surgery (either Lap-Band Revision or Gastric Bypass Revision) is possible with EITHER of the following conditions met:
    • Physician documented medical complication
    • Physician documented surgical complication

Thanks for the info. Pretty much what I found out as well. I don’t even live in TN but it’s the insurance my company provides 🤷🏻‍♀️

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
